11:10 AM ET 10.26 | Sir Alex Ferguson wants Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina to be Manchester United's new No.1. United boss Ferguson believes Reina may become available because of unrest at Anfield. The Spain international is to hold talks with Liverpool's new owners NESV after becoming concerned about the club's long-term direction. Reina is believed to be unhappy that manager Roy Hodgson is using 68-year-old former keeper Mike Kelly as part of his coaching team and he has been putting Reina through some training routines.

umm ... why go after him? why not De Gea? lloris? Mandanda? Neuer? Pepe is good but he ain't great

October 26, 2010  11:34 AM ET

and those training routines ... are they like jazzercise? step aerobics? actual keeper drills? god forbid a keeper have to train ...

SAF knows what he's doing here. Reina is experienced, athletic, and has one of the best distributions in the world. Man U is not about to take a chance on a goalie that isn't battle-tested in the best league in the world.

They should totally be focusing on Lloris or someone who is young. Reina is still a decent keeper, and I realize that those who tend goal can play well into their late-30s and into their 40s even at a high level, but for the money a guy like Lloris is more worth the investment.

Here's an idea... Why not try to bring back Tim Howard?

I don't think that Pool is in firesale mode yet, so i don't see this happening. Why sell your best keeper?

Dude. NO.

Firstly, no sale has been made b/t Liverpool and United in like forever. And more importantly, I don't think Pepe is an all-conquering keeper by any means. PASS.

And no to Mandanda too, CUT. If we are looking to get younger but steady, the route should be Lloris, Neuer, Akinfeev, and I've been hearing buzzes about some wunderkid up in one of the Scandinavian leagues.

Sean Johnson from the Fire will be playing over in Europe within the next couple of years. He's probably going to be the guy that will be Guzan's back up for 2018. He's tall, with very long arms, very athletic, covers a lot of ground and always seems to be in the right position.

Not saying United would put any sort of trust in him now, but I'm just thinking about how the US continues to develop that position so well.

Announcement from here in Chicago coming shortly about the newest MISL franchise.

The Chicago Riot has just been started around 3 weeks ago and plans on playing this upcoming season... A crazy endeavor for a guy who knows the business well- Peter Wilt. He ran the Fire from their inception in '97. Got canned before AEG sold the Fire to Andrew Hauptman, is part owner of the WPS' Chicago Red Stars and recently ran the Milwaukee Wave (another MISL team).

Glad to see another professional soccer team starting here in Chicago. It is particularly cool to see Wilt run the show. He does a great job reaching out to fans and getting a ton of loyalty from knowledgeable soccer people. Too bad they are playing way out in the NW suburubs... Hopefully he will be running beer buses from local bars in my 'hood.

Did you decide to have lunch at Everest? It's windy everywhere in the Midwest, just ask crosscountrycpjon.

Hugo Lloris should be wearing an Arsenal jersey dammit.

Maybe the reason why we can't develop any halfway decent strikers is because our keepers are so good that the strikers can never build up their confidence?

A lot of wind. Trees are down in a lot of places. The storm was a lot stronger this morning around 10. Honestly though nothing to write home about. I was a little disappointed.

Don't start with the guilt machine today. I'm tired of your nagging.
