Tomlin takes swipe at league officials

08:03 AM ET 10.27 | While some teams have said their players lowered their strike zones last week, Mike Tomlin was in no mood to concede anything of the sort Tuesday. Tomlin, asked if he saw any other Steelers pulling back, called it "insulting" that anyone would say such a thing. "I didn't see anything of that nature," an obviously irritated Tomlin said. ... The Steelers' coach said, as far as NFL officials commenting on how his players play, "It would be tough for me to care less about their opinion, to be honest with you."

Good for him!

October 27, 2010  08:13 AM ET

but when one of his guys gets suspended he'll be whining as loud as anyone.

A lot of that going around

October 27, 2010  08:13 AM ET

Bet he cares about their opinions during the game.

He'll be fined by lunch-time.

35k. But funny how the NFL admitted the calls were bad & still fined him.

They hit his pockets to the tune of $35,000.

October 27, 2010  08:21 AM ET

He could've gave me $10K and I would've thrown eggs at the ump during the game.

It's the NFL man. You can't have any fun no matter what you do.

$35 mill :-) So much for NFL "apoligizing" for the game.
I like Tomlin, players coach, Steelers almost have that play off feeling

Hmmm didn't **** to much about them when they stole that victory for them in Miami. Seem someone may be a little two face.

October 27, 2010  08:41 AM ET

Pittsburgh should be kissing the referees' butts after the Miami game.

NO team seems to steal more games than they do from "faulty" officiating.

And no team's fans defend their right to do so with more vigor. They ought to reverse that win based on Rothlisberger's lame ass description of the play alone. Never mind the video evidence.

No that was what he was fined for...

I like Tomlin, or anyone that speaks their mind, good for him

So I guess it's also the refs fault that when Miami got the ball back the first play they ran was a run, which hadn't worked the whole game, and didn't work and wasted a down. Great play calling. But Tomlin made a good point about the late whistles. Anymore the refs are just letting the play go on and making the call that can be easily reviewed and overturned, so they can use video replay. Thus, the NFL is talking out of both sides of the mouth saying they are concerned with player safety but at the same time letting scrums and piles go on without a whistle.

The concept of the NFL caring about player safety is garbage and everyone knows it.

The NFL wants and 18 game schedule, the owners have said they won't pay for health care during a strike, the NFL doesn't enforce proper fitting helmets (the only time a players helmet should come off is if his head is knocked off his body) and they want us to believe this is about "concern for the players"?

This is about protecting the NFL's investment in players making millions of dollars while trying to keep the high percentage of passing numbers to make the "casual fans" playing fantasy football happy. All while not doing anything for the players.
