Royster nears mark in bittersweet fashion

08:42 AM ET 10.28 | Though nearing an impressive record, Penn State's Evan Royster is ready for it to be in the past. He needs 31 more yards Saturday against Michigan to break former All-American Curt Warner's school record of 3,398. It has been a tough season for Royster, who entered the year needing 481 yards to break that record, but has struggled to find running room while operating behind an inconsistent offensive line. "I'll be glad when it's over," Royster said, when asked about the record for the umpteenth time. "I just want to stop hearing about it, have it behind me and kind of move on." Royster, a fifth-year senior who rushed for 1,000 yards each of the past two seasons, has 450 yards on 88 carries and two touchdowns through seven games.

I would have thought the school record would be more than that but good luck to the kid.

That is surprisingly low considering the history of the program.

PSU & Royster, rocketing toward mediocrity.

I'm not surprised at that at all. PSU has always been an upperclassmen play first kind of team. In that vain, no kid was getting more than two years as a starter. Poor Royster - started with bang, ending with a whimper.

Plus none of those backs at PSU had SEC SPEED.

When I think of PSU teams I think of a stout defense rather than a potent offense.

Where do you suppose this dialect came from?

Another reason not to go to Penn State if you are a good running back. It is a lineman's school; defense if first. This program needs to get some new coaches outside the PSU family.

I would have guessed KiJana Carter had that record. Dang almost made it until November, before making a mistake!

And we're off, first of many ranked teams to lose coming this Saturday. Thank you NC State for making my day...
