Drivers back Giuliani campaign
Maybe we should call him Racin' Rudy. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is popular with some high-profile members of NASCAR, according to campaign finance reports filed today with the Federal Election Commission. NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Casey Mears all contributed $2,300 to Giuliani's Republican presidential campaign during the most recent quarter. But they may have just been taking orders from the pit. Gordon, Johnson and Mears all drive for Hendrick Motorsports. Rick Hendrick, the head of Hendrick Motorsports, also contributed to Giuliani.

I am not really sure who on this site really cares how much money was given to Giuliani...
I am sure we will gind a way to incorporate Jr, or Jeff into the discussion....

In all seriousness, I think Jeff bumped Jr because he is pulling for Clinton....

Anybody who votes based on who their driver likes has some serious issues.......
I mean, you have to pick the candidate based on the type of beer they drink... everybody knows that....

$2300 isnt going to go too far...that dosnt even cover propaganda gathering for a TV ad. Just let me know who JR is voting for and I will follow suit (lol). I would write in for Frank Zappa again...but we lost him a few years ago.

NASCAR fans are fiercely 'brand loyal', sure, but this would be taking it to an extreme.

ON BOTH POSTS
Frank ZAPPA Rocked, and I really miss him. Read his book if you want to know how this country should be run. He had a very realistic way of getting rid of income tax and making all people of all income brackets pay equal amounts relating to what they spend.

Doesn't seem right for Hendrick to back Giuliani, after the half-mil paid to "Slick Willy" Clinton on his behalf for his pardon. Would have expected more loyalty to the party or at least the family.

It may not seem right, but it makes sense - as a Republican, Giuliani is far more likely to serve the interests of the wealthy and of corporations. Rick Hendrick would benefit from both of those things. On the other hand, Clinton is much more likely to roll back the tax cuts from a few years back that benefited ultra-high income earners such as Hendrick, Gordon, Johnson, and probably Mears. Not only that, but the vast majority of NASCAR fans are likely Republicans (there's more than one kind of Red Nation), and it just wouldn't do for any of them to go donating to any Democratic candidate.
I'm sure they would have given more than $2,300 if federal campaign regulations would allow individual donations higher than that, but that still doesn't mask the real issue here: who cares? As long as they don't start using their on-camera time to shill for any candidate, why does it matter what they do with their own money?

Presidential candidate Bob Graham sponsored a truck a couple years ago. Was that the only time in the US that a campaign sponsored a car? They did it in Canada once before, too, I believe.
