The Spartans, led by conference preseason player of the year Kalin Lucas (for the second straight season), are coming off two straight Final Four appearances and return three starters and nine players from last year's team that finished 28-9 and tied for the Big Ten title. "Our team, I think, is very good," MSU coach Tom Izzo said. "I think we have some key players back. I think we've had an incredible rash of injuries since last spring through the summer, and that's probably our biggest dilemma right now, is really getting a feel for our team and trying to get them ready in a short period of time." ... Izzo also said that freshman swingman Russell Byrd "probably" is lost for the year with a stress fracture in his foot.
