07:58 AM ET 10.31 | Now that they know manager Tony La Russa, pitching coach Dave Duncan and batting coach Mark McGwire all are coming back, the Cardinals are shifting their focus to upgrading their infield. Miguel Tejada is on their radar as they look to improve at two of three spots among second, short and third.

WHY????? He's 35 years old - can't they find someone YOUNGER????????????????

He's an upgrade of what exactly?

This is a bad choice. He may have resurrected his career a bit in San Diego, but I wouldn't bite on this one.

I'd say we would be lucky if he is actually only 35. I don't get this one.....Tony seems to have always been in love with Tejada, which was fine 6 or 7 years ago. He played well for San Diego down the stretch, but is this really the upgrade we want to count on for a full season?

I think not.

...When Tejada was in his prime and on the juice...

I can't say I totally disagree with this. He doesn't have range to play shortstop anymore, but he would be a definite offensive upgrade at 3rd. I think SS can be handled just fine by Brendan Ryan, and Tyler Greene. I do agree though that this would be a temporary fix to a more permanent problem. If they are going to spend money, I would suggest they find someone to fill the 2nd base spot. Either someone with Leadoff capability, or some pop (Kelly Johnson, or Dan Uggla). If Freese can stay healthy, he'll be just fine at 3rd, and he's got some pop. I've always liked Tejada, but now that he's in his 50s, I'm not sure he's the answer.

What a shock, Tony laRussa being interested in a player who used Steroids, or sorry took regular B12 shots for energy. Desperate times call for desperate measures, maybe Mark McGwire can coach more than hitting next year.

LaRussa has alway been an apologist for steroid users. His situational ethics make me sick.

He's not an upgrade for 4 or 5 years. But for 2 or 3? Of Course!!! He's a clubhouse leader. Dominican, as Pujols. The only downgrade will be that this is a righty heavy lineup, he's not a basher, nor a runner (has never been), so i think they shouldn't invest much in him.

Oh hell no!

November 1, 2010  09:32 AM ET

I think that I would prefer to take our chances with Freese staying healty over Tejada staying productive.

the cardenals are trying to lure the roids from any where on baseball world!!!

I would totally agree with that. No way Tejada can play SS anymore, especially on a Dave Duncan team, so spend the money elsewhere.

True. I think Tejada still want to be an everyday player, and would want everyday money to go along with it. He is old enogh to be as big of a health risk as Freese and is a declining player with one good resurected season with the Padres. I seriously hope that this is just a rumor and nothing more. The Cardinals need a good short stop or secound baseman not an antique.

Bad idea, if it's true, and if true also more ammunition against an idiot GM if we sign this overpriced washed up player.
