War of words heat up in Falcons-Bucs

07:59 AM ET 11.02 | Atlanta's Mike Peterson backed up the "tape" when he heard Raheem Morris' proclamation that Tampa Bay was the NFC's top team. "I was like, 'Let me back that up.' I was sitting with a couple of my friends and they were like 'Did he really say that?' Tell him 'thank you.'" The Falcons, almost to a man, have heard about Morris' comments and have taken note of them. "I guess that we are playing the best team in the NFC this week," wide receiver Roddy White said. "Obviously, we have to try and go out there and get a win against the best team in the NFC." Morris' boast is clearly not sitting well with the Falcons, who have pummeled some of the teams (Arizona, Cincinnati and Cleveland) that Tampa Bay has squeaked by. Also, Atlanta beat New Orleans, while the Saints routed Tampa Bay, 31-6.

Some guys just can't figure out how to shut their pie hole. I'd say right now the Giants are the team in the NFC.

Why is this worthy of an article?...even on T&R. Intern's Halloween sugar crash?

Raheem Morris is delusional... and yeah reading this was a waste of 30 seconds of my day.

The NFC is mediocre- the smartest kid on the short bus.

Sorry, this thread is like watching PBS during Sweeps Week for the TV networks. All the glitz, glamor and hot shows are elsewhere. Bor-ing.

November 2, 2010  09:12 AM ET

Well, they're definately not the worst team.

BOOYAH!!

What a misunderstanding! Morris was just doing his Rex Ryan impersonation at open-mic night at the local comedy club.

Why not... beats the standard pablum we get stuck with.

Now - who are these guys?

November 2, 2010  10:46 AM ET

Tampa is NFC's top team?
1. He should be called out by Atlanta, Giants, and all the teams who will end up .500 just like Tampa.
2. If true, NFC should just forfeit the Superbowl and Probowl.

(Fortunately its not true)

November 2, 2010  11:10 AM ET

Because my years of training and hard work, desire to win a Super Bowl, and $25,000,000 contract are not enough to keep me sufficiently motivated...I need to read a torn newspaper article taped to the urinal stall about a quote from some guy named Raheem Morris to get me to play to my potential.

Is this "He said what? Why I oughta..." routine the biggest crock of crap ever? So if Morris stays quiet, the Falcons mope through a 31-10 defeat, but now they'll come to play? Right.....

Ah, nothing like a war or words to get guys who make MILLIONS of dollars to play a sport that most of us played for FREE motivated. I guess if hadn't said anything the Falcons would just lay down and get beat by 30 points {:o (

You beat me to it. This crap drives me crazy. What is this...junior high? Did torn newspaper quotes even work in jr high?

November 2, 2010  11:48 AM ET

Raheem wasnt takin any shots at any other team..... He said it to get his guys to think at that level...... Not taking any shots at falcons but this week, We'll see what Bucs are made of!

Iggles, Gints or Aints - looks to be one of those three.

November 2, 2010  01:09 PM ET

Morris is saying this to motivate his team...I dont' think he gives a flying >>$$ about what the Falcons think of his team. It's all about confidence and beliefs that you are a winner...Man I bet Dallas wish they had a coach that can instill that into their players.

Giants D is playing awesome...
When good Eli shows up they can pretty much beat anyone. When bad Eli shows up, it can dicey

November 2, 2010  01:24 PM ET

Aren't the Bucs like -27 in point differential with wins against Clev, Carolina, Cinn, Rams, and Cards? Wow, an impressive combined 12-24 record, only one of which is at .500.

The two Bucs losses were beat-downs from Steelers and Saints. No offense, but this team will be lucky to finish at 8-8 this year.

November 2, 2010  02:40 PM ET

It may be lame, but don't fool yourselves into thinking the trash talk doesn't motivate. That whole 'disrespect' line fuels these guys....even though the $25mil contracts, etc factors are there. 71% of the NFL plays better offense and 59% have better defense. Yep best in NFC. RIGHT. Falcons by 5.

You're still using tape, Mike? Maybe that's part of the problem. An analog team in a digital league.
