10:18 AM ET 11.02 | Barcelona is bracing itself for a $47 million bid from Manchester City for Brazilian fullback Dani Alves. City made tentative inquiries in the summer but were told Alves was poised to sign a new long-term deal. However, that deal has not been signed and Barcelona insiders fear that is because Alves believes he can get a much better deal with City -- especially after seeing former teammate Yaya Toure strike a deal worth $350,000 a week.

it's all about the money.

Pootie could have a field day with this.

Plus, if he does go, that pretty much grants Ronaldo or Di Maria or Ozil free range down the flank

= Real victory

Bombtastic. I missed the AEK-Panathanaikos derby match in Athens because I drove back from Corinth to late (plus everyone in Athens told me not to go), but I made up for it by going to the Alemannia Aachen-FSV Mainz DFB Pokal game at the Tivoli, which was pure insanity and I enjoyed watching Novakovic score a hat-trick against HSV in Cologne.

Dude! Sick! sounds like a blast of a trip man! wish i'd-a been there! the hat-trick had to have been cool, i HATE HSV (tho RvN gets a pass) i only saw youtube highlights, Gol TV has been acting up here so i didn't know when the game was on

We need more Bundesliga links! It's a damn interesting league with plenty of on-the-field drama! In a few years we will be reading about my beloved 1. ****!!!

Bayern didn't stop playing, Hitzfeld should never have taken off Matthaus with 10 minutes left and brought in Thorsten Fink. Fink's inability to properly clear a ball is what lost Bayern the match. The lack of skill of a Bayern substitute is the only reason Bayern lost. That's all I will say about that.Bayern didn't say anything about young talents having to be German, just no South America talents.Players Bayern was interested in from South America in the last decade:Carlos Tevez - offered to Bayern for 30 million euro as a "talent".Robinho - offered to Bayern for 35 million euro as a "talent".When a talent costs upwards of 30 million euro without having proven anything on a big stage, they are not worth 30+ million unless they are going to an EPL side.Bayern spends a "modest" 15 million euro on Breno as a "talent" and after three years he's worth a pack of tic-tacs and a **** from a Macedonian hooker.Show me one compelling purchase ANY Bundesliga club has made from South America in the last 10 years. I'd be dying to see who you come up with.

You forgot to mention the other big news:

1. Soccer Talk Live with Kyle Martino and his band of celebrities who knew nothing about soccer have been canceled by FSC (unless my sources are totally off and there is some explanation for the show being "off the schedule" for this week and next.

2. Part 3 with Jimmy Conrad, we discuss how he was a dog's hair from signing with Hannover 96 and Rosenborg.... He also talks NY Cosmos:

3. There is no sign Brett & Derek or I will be picked up by FSC for a soccer variety show featuring flying squirrels and Rico's balls.

4. Dynamo has really left FN for what looks like for good.

5. LA Galaxy beat up on the Sounders.

6. Lothar Matthaus is speaking Bulgarian.

November 2, 2010  11:17 AM ET

why, what the ****. I cannot write 1. ****. 1. FC Kaiserslautern will have to do.

The New Tivoli in Aachen is awesome. Seeing a second division team sell out all 32,000 of it's seats is always a special thing, although that's pretty standard for Alemannia. The atmosphere was intense. The Cologne-HSV match was great too. When Podolski's goal was disallowed at 2-2 I thought it would end in a draw, but then Novakovic hit his third in the 86th minute. The HSV fans smuggled in their own inflatable palm trees and Blue & White beach balls, so it looked like there was a beach party going on in the away section.

just googled the Tivoli, that's a good lookin' stadium. DC United, should they ever leave the RFK leper colony, should build a park like that.

and why an HSV beach party? is it not cold in Germany this time of year?

... Is Alemannia Aachen's nick name really the Potato Beetles?

As far as I'm concerned, that show never happened. Give a shout to Dynamo next time you Skype him.

I try to pretend STL never happened but I watched it three times--once with my wife just to confirm that what I was watching would be horrible to a wider demographic--that it didn't somehow appeal to women who love Susan Serandon.

Dynamo is a busy guy, and Beyond the Pitch is really doing well (and getting press overseas) so he's simply overwhelmed. I'll definitely give him a shout out for you when next we skype!

One thing about Eastern time I like: Matches start at very reasonable times. I could get used to that.

yeah it's nice. it's gotta be rough out west knowing that live games are quite early in the day. the mid afternoon games are nice during mid week, and on weekends i can get 2-2.5 games in before college football starts. and even then, it really depends on when Clemson plays
