08:28 AM ET 11.03 | Welshman Gareth Bale produced a brilliant display as Spurs destroyed Champions League holders Inter Milan. But it was the 21-year-old midfielder who destroyed Brazilian right back Maicon, setting up two goals. Teammate Rafael Van der Vaart insisted afterwards Bale had sent shockwaves through European soccer. "Everyone is scared of him. Maicon is the best right back in the world -- he destroyed him," said Van der Vaart.

I never knew a girl named "Krystal Ball" was running for the house in VA-1... I woulda voted for her. She obviously can see the future...

Spurs looked good last night. Bale is the best left winger in the world right now. He killed Maicon...literally killed him......literally.....Maicon is dead right now......literally.....

No, you are correct. Bale is actually Frod Baggins?

No... Christian Bale is Batman. Elijah Wood is Frodo Baggins.

Don't know if you guys saw this but I'll repost:The Seattle Times is reporting Sounders winger Steve Zakuani should be receiving his green card by the end of the month and he will also announce who he will represent at the international level. Zakuani said his decision has been made, though he gave no hints. He said- I'm paraphrasing- "You'll know when you see me on the field."

Congo or the US......wonder which one to pick.... :-/

Ok, in England there's a charity called "No Messin'" which attempts to discourage kids from playing on railroad tracks. That's sad and awesome at the same time. And better yet, Steward Downing is involved.

They put model train hobbyists to shame...

And as far as Zakuani... does a green card, permanent residency, allow for national side duties? Or does he need to go that next step and get citizenship?

Taylor Twellman is retiring.

Michael Owen - MLS?

Theo Walcott to striker a la Thierry Henry?

Vincent Gray won DC Mayor (shocker!!! he had no opponents). DC United fans rejoice and cry all in the same moment.

Maicon has not been playing as the best right back in the world this season.

Most of the entire Brazil WC squad have played this season like they got beat up when came back home from South Africa.... Ain't no telling how they'll come out if the same happens in 2014.

November 3, 2010  09:58 AM ET

Oh dear god, let the "Bale is the best left wing of all time" discussions begin. Let me remind everyone that all summer long I was screaming that Madrid would be stupid to spend all that money on Maicon and move Ramos to the middle when he's clearly better than Maicon. Bale is very good, but Macion makes him look just stupid good.

I'm sure TLAG will agree with me in saying that the Brazil of 2014 won't look much like that of 2010. There will be a serious changing of the guard before.

Bale is legit. Pootie, you still want Maicon? I got me a Santon waiting in the wings ...

Don't get me wrong, Maicon is still good but in no way should he have been burned that badly by Bale. Physically, i can understand that bale is faster(early 20s vs a 30 yr old) but there were some glaring mental errors by one Douglas Maicon.

Again, For SALE: A past-it Brazilian Right Back. Bald. Likes to push forward, could score, could put it in row F. Yours today for 30 mil GBP.

The kid is good but one third of a season does not a career make. Credit where credit is due to you spurs fans, Bale won y'all the game. but no way can this kid enter a GOAT discussion. not yet.

see comment #27. Maicon would never have supplanted Ramos from the RB spot if it were up to me. Ramos is THE BEST RB in the game. Maicon has a better shot and is a bit flashier, but that's about it. Ramos is faster, stronger both on the ground and in the air, and can run for days.

But Messi is already better than Diego after 2.5 good years, so based on Bale's tie v. Inter he has to be on the brink....

Agreed on all points going back 1.5 seasons. It's a close call but I'd take Ramos over Maicon. Maicon is a bit too over zealous, and can often leave the D exposed to the counter. See last night for the third Spurs goal.

Though, the question still remains: Does TSO make a push for Maicon in the summer for a CL push? It is known he likes Maicon.
