08:30 AM ET 11.03 | Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is more concerned about Auburn. [Malzahn] said Tuesday night he's not worried about any potential head coaching opportunities that may come his way. ... "To be honest, I'm in my own little world," Malzahn said. "My entire focus is on this team and making it the best it can be. I'm extremely happy. I've said that time and time again. I love Coach Chizik and I love coaching these kids. And my only focus is trying to win games and trying to win a championship." The Denver Post printed a story this week that listed Malzahn as one of four possible candidates for the Colorado job -- if the Buffaloes fire Dan Hawkins. Malzahn said after Tuesday's practice that "somewhere down the line I'd like" to be a head coach, but "I'm in no hurry. I feel like a lot of people think I am. But like I've said before, we've got a good thing going here and I'd like to see it through."

Hate to be Hawkins, right now.

I'd rather be an Auburn coordinator than a Colorado coach.

The move to the PAC 10 may help Colorado.

I would have to agree. Although he will be playing in the P10 and recruiting Cali. with his name recognition he might get some really good players and have a chance to build a program.

Yea, but he'll have to watch where he walks. Ralphie leaves some nasty chips out there.

If he's going to jump, he should do it this year. His stock is high. Once Cam leaves Auburn, Gus won't look as brilliant as he does today.

Somewhere out there, there's a Pee Wee League coach who could do as good as Hawkins has done. CU needs not just a NAME coach, but a very good X's and O's guy, otherwise the move to the Pac12 will be a huge waste of recruiting opportunities.

If Hawkins was going to do it at Colorado, he would have by now. So he's dead meat.

Interesting choice if they go with Malzahn, a guy with no college HC experience. His offense is pretty much the toast of college FB right now (outside of Oregon, that is).

I think he'd be better off with some more seasoning and from his quotes it seems like he may realize that. But if the money's good enough...

I said that a few days ago and was called an Alabama homer.

Half a season of success as an offensive coordinator does not qualify one to be the head coach of a Div. I CFB program. The media wishes it were so easy.

Co will be taking a chance if they go after him.

Could he possibly do any worse?

He has Arkansas 06 and Tulsa 07-08 to fall back on too.But that still doesn't qualify you to be a HC at D1 school. Co will be taking a chance if they go after him.

A head coach has to know how to handle the chancellor, the AD and most importantly the rich alums and boosters - the lifeblood of the program. It takes a skilled person to keep all these facets happy while at the same time moving the program forward. The boosters are always offering input to go along with their $$ and it doesn't take much to tick them off and turn against you. That's why you don't want a hothead like Muschamp or a rookie like Malzahn taking control without the proper seasoning.

Negative. Cam will be cashing large checks by then.

You renouncing your Bama homer status?

Didn't think so.

I agree completely. It's a whole different ballgame being HC over OC/DC. Toss in recruiting and you have to be able to manage alot of stuff and not everyone is cut out for that.

Not to mention hiring good, qualified OCs, DCs, and other asst coaches. Some guys are just best suited to be "something other than" HCs.

I gotta say I think Malzahn would do a good job as HC. He was put in a horrible position here at ARKEY, and he handled himself well (came out of it better than the HC). He was great at the politics of dealing with the big money guys here in NW Arkansas, and he still does a great job of recruiting talent from Arkansas to Auburn (Dyer, Zimbia, Burns, and the next great QB Frazier). I would take a chance on him.....in fact we have either he or Butch Davis penciled in to replace Petrino WHEN he leaves

Go for it. Everything changes when Cam's gone. Cash in on a good year before your stock drops.

Butch Davis? Really?!! Heading for trouble in Arky then!

IMO once Cam and Malzahn leaves.... Chiz will go back to the coach he was at Iowa State...Malzahn should pass on CO...Doomed to fail

I agree...Needs a decent program, such as LSU.
