09:25 AM ET 11.03 | Notre Dame has struggled to hold on to recruits as it has struggled on the field, but Stephon Tuitt appears to be be headed to South Bend. [The Irish have] lost three four-star commitments so far in defensive ends Clay Burton and Aaron Lynch and offensive tackle Jordan Prestwood. But they're not going to lose their four-star defensive end from Georgia. ... The 6-foot-5, 260-pound [Tuitt is] sticking with the Fighting Irish regardless of how this season shakes out. "It just makes me more determined," Tuitt said. "I'm going to Notre Dame for football, but that's not the only thing I'm going there for. I'm also going for the school and the academics and the history and the tradition. None of that has changed."

How did they ever manage?

You gotta have the DL and OL.

Number one graduation rate in the country, 8 years running i believe, smart kid.

Any coach that fails to graduate 90% of his players should in some way be limited or punished when it comes to recruiting. New NCAA rule, what do you think.

I think graduation rates for student-athletes should be =/> to the graduation rate of the rest of the student body.

Hopefully he is not going there for their recent history and traditions.

90%??? No way. While I agree the education should be primary, its nowhere near realistic to think the majority of schools will graduate that many kids.

Can't punish coaches that have kids that don't graduate because they leave for the NFL. I do like this kids attitude though. We need more like him in all avenues of life.

Agreed, would change the makeup of the BCS

This is a more sound idea to me.

Does this mean that academic departments will oversign like their football coaches that oversign???

November 3, 2010  10:46 AM ET

Signing day is a long ways away. This kid as well as the rest out there have plenty of time to flip-flop through the recruiting process.

I think when all you have to brag about is graduation rates, then your football program is in trouble. Just sayin'...

The old saying..'Winning cures all ills'....definitely applies to ND. The tradition is still there, but they need a consistent WINNING tradition. Its hard to figure out...unless they string some 9-3,10-2 type seasons together i don't see any turnaround. You have to win to get any recognition.
Yes, the academics are second to none, but mediocrity on the field seems well entrenched there now.

Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Stanford and a few others may want to debate this statement. Not to mention their football teams are better than ND's this year.

WTF happened to my quote reference (#3 by Joekidd)? Are the effin' FN boards acting up again?

You dissing my #3? Why you dissing my #3??? You would think what I said was obvious, but it seems some coaches don't get it.

Franchione never recruited OL.
