FSU looks for right QB mix
Bobby Bowden will rely on Xavier Lee and his big-play ability to start over Drew Weatherford's consistency at QB as FSU tries for its third consecutive win over Miami. Bobby Bowden remains firm in the belief that all the ingredients for a light-it-up quarterback are right there on the Florida State sideline. Here's the problem: They exist in two different packages.

I have to read this article. I hope to God they don't think bringing in Weatherford FOR ANY REASON is going to help us. People were criticising Lee for the WF game, but if Weatherford had played all night we would have lost 24-0, no doubt.

the article calls Drew a 'classic dropback passer'......is that journalistic talk for 'slow, lumbering QB who can't scramble'? LOL

haha thank you ATL fan. he is slow in more areas than scrambling too. they need to talk about "mental speed" for a change.
i dont care if Lee is so bad with the playbook that you dont even call plays, just let him chuck it up like its backyard football

absolutely! i'm glad that Drew's study habits have helped him to better understand the playbook, but what about reading defenses? that seems to be lacking on his part and Lee's.......think Jimbo realizes that yet? maybe Mickey should give the QBs a little helpful advice regarding defenses.

bobby bowden should open it more like the days when charlie ward was the quarterback. Yeh there is not the same talent as there was in 93 but the offensive was very explosive.

Exactly. If the offensive scheme would give the quarterback a chance by spreading receivers over the field, we might have some success. Right now it's the same scheme over and over and over...and failure continues.

For this season, it has to be Xavier Lee.
For next season E.J. Manuel.

E.J. Manuel??? freshman?? yeah, way to go ahead and ruin the kid's chance. ask clausen how that is going in ND...

Comparing Clausen and Manuel are apples and oranges. Not all freshman quarterbacks struggle.

first off sumo, bobby bowden is hardly involved in the scheme, so he would not be the one to "open it up". second, the thing that is killing us is running the football. our offensive line is terrible, so how do u combat this? ive said 100 times, misdirections, counters, and creativity. as far as the charlie ward days, that is not what we want to do with lee. if he sits back in the shotgun, he is terrible. we need to move him around and roll him out. i agree the playcalling has been terrible, but we dont have nearly enough talent to run that "fast break" offense. when you are good, u can do whatever u want. this is not the case currently

Weatherford can't make plays w/ his arm or his legs. Plus he holds on to the ball too long. All of that makes for a recipe for disaster w/ our O-line. Lee may run the wrong play sometimes and need extra tutoring and miss practice due to that and make more mistakes, but he makes plays that Weatherford is incapable of making. We gotta stick w/ Lee, he has much more to offer, our receivers seem to drop fewer balls and play harder and better when he's the QB, and the more he plays the better he'll get.

i agree nole j
you can attribute some of his inconsistency to not using him the right way.

We would have beat FSU if they left Weatherford in they should use him though to signal the plays in to Lee.

I think i'm going blind.
Did the article say: Lee's playmaking ability over Weatherford's "consistency"???
I think all FSU fans want right now is some consistency at QB, the only problem is that neither are very good at it. ESPECIALLY not Weatherford. Lee is the obvious choice.

From what I've seen, Weatherford's passing ability is no more exciting than Lee's, and at Lee can scramble to get out of trouble if he has to. When starting a young O-line, you have to have a quarterback that can evade a sack...stick with Lee.
