09:22 AM ET 11.08 | Sidney Crosby, at 40.8 percent, takes more of his team's faceoffs than anyone in the league. In a statistical category where anything above even is good and anything over 55 percent wins is excellent, Crosby's numbers look like this: In the offensive zone, 53.2 percent. In the defensive zone, 61.6 percent. In the neutral zone, 71.2 percent. At home, 59.3 percent. On the road, 56.1 percent. On the power play, 60 percent. He falls off to 42.8 percent when short-handed, but those numbers usually are below 50 percent because a center's team is at a disadvantage and faceoff wins are determined by which team gets possession, not which player at the faceoff dot gets his stick on the puck.

I like how they swing the short-handed face-off stats so his numbers don't look all that bad...

May take awhile longer than normal since Joe Pa just won his 400th.

The league average is 34.87 %....so 42.8 % is a good bit better than average....

Absolutely. Sometimes the spam is the most intellegent thing on here. :-)

Wow, a whopping 10-11 comments, and mostly NOT from Pens' fans. Guess those sirens aren't loud enough in the Greater Pittsburgh area.

Getting face off wins are important, and I am glad Sid is staying (so far) on top of his game wherever he can. Seems like he the only Pen concerned in doing so...as USUAL!!!

They're too busy with the "Crosby is a punk" throwdown...

November 8, 2010  12:43 PM ET

This thread isn't telling us Pens fans anything we don't know. I'm surprised nobody tried to say that Crosby is cheating on the face offs and the refs are letting him get away with it.

Indeed. And I am ashamed to say I am participating in such ridiculous discussion.

Of course. If you watched the games you can see it each face-off...the ref asks Sid a question (where he wants it) and Sid points to his bottom half of the circle. It's not a conspiracy when it's out in the open like that.

Ah, knew that was going to happen. **** T&R!

Also, just because he's good at face-offs doesn't mean he isn't the worst person in the world.

A week and a half ago he was at 71.4 according to a story in the local rags
