TCU's Del Conte dancing with Big East?

08:20 AM ET 11.09 | If TCU is taking its talents to a new conference, it is interested only in doing with all of its programs. "We're an athletic department," [AD Chris Del Conte] said in a telephone interview with Sporting News. "Whatever endeavor we do, you're united as one." ... Recent reports have linked the Horned Frogs to the Big East's plans to expand from eight football-playing schools to 10. Citing sources, some of the reports suggested the conference would want TCU as a football-only member. Del Conte's comments about splitting his teams described his general philosophy about such a scenario. Still, the Horned Frogs athletic director didn't rule out a potential conference change.

This is all about an automatic BCS bid. Once TCU joins and the Big East loses it's automatic qualifier, TCU will be off again. How many conferences have they been in in the last 15 years?

Yes, and ABC owns the rights to the Big12 CCG's through 2016. TV networks don't like lost revenue so I expect ABC will apply pressure until Dan Beebe adds teams.

Gator, I used to live in Richmond, VA for many years and was there when the departure of Tech, BC & Miami occurred. My constant theme at work with all the VA Tech guys was that the Big East was better than the ACC in football. And they never disagreed. IMO for at least the first 3 years of the departure the Big East was better. But not last year and not now. It is somewhere between the Southern Conf and the MAC. LOL
But not at the beginning.

Depends, TCU was one second from playing for the BCS title last year and has a good line on it right now in 2010. Where else with a job opening would he be able to get that kind of credibility up and running in less than 3 or 4 years?
Maybe Penn State, but certainly not at CU, MINN, or WSU.

There's a great idea. Have a college team traveling back and forth across the country to compete. To even out this dumb idea Syracuse sould join the MWC.

TCU already travels back and forth across the country to compete against the current MWC. Instead of heading West, it would be East. Also, they will now be travelling further West with the additons of Boise State, Fresno, and Nevada. The thought of joining the Big Least sickens me, but the non-AQ status sickens me even more. If they win out, that will be back to back regular season perfection. That is not a feat they will be able to accomplish every year, it's already amazing they have almost done it two years straight!(Boise St. will be three years straight!!!)
