Richt had pegged Newton as a TE

08:26 AM ET 11.10 | Mark Richt will take on the Auburn express in Georgia's next game, and he can look back to recruiting quarterback Cam Newton. "I remember him. He was a very talented guy, a guy that we did look at. We actually had him pegged as more of a tight end prospect. A lot of it had to do with what we like to do offensively, more of a fit [issue] than any disrespect to his ability to play quarterback. He's proven to be pretty darn good, though."

We have a pretty decent TE/QB guy in Trey Burton. Interesting combo, isn't it? All the rage these days.

And for you NFL hounds, I see Tebow hasn't done the "reverse combo" yet, moving from QB to TE like many predicted. I know, his career ain't over yet, but I don't see that move happening.

How much did Richt offer him to play TE/QB?

Do not forget TE/QB Jordan Reed. Trey is more H-back/QB/TE/WR.

Until Murray, UGA has not had an athletic QB since Quincy Carter.

So you evaluated Cam Newton and decided he was a better fit at TE? Way to show your player evalutation skills.

Are you kidding? How about D.J. Shockley?

Just a side note but did any of you see that trick play by the HS team where the quarterback walked through the line and once past the LBs sprinted to the end zone? One of the funniest things I have seen in a while.

Tebow will be a servicable NFL QB before all is said and done.

"Freak" athletes are that no longer. If they are gifted and can play the most demanding skills position on the football field, then get 'em in there.

Anyone catch ESPN 30/30 last night on Marcus Dupree. Good grief, what could have been.

Leaf was a bigger mistake than Tebow could ever be because Timmy does not have his head up his arse like Leaf does. A little early for that saying that Tebow is a bust. There are some current teammates that are bigger bust, Jarvis Moss anyone.

I am unsure if I would have admitted that if I was Richt.

Latest - FBI investigating the pay for play related to Cam Newton.

Andy Staples this morning while being grilled by Al Del Greco former auburn kicker and former Titan kicker.....

"Why was the cheating at Floirda reported."
"Because it happened."

But the even bigged response to me was this comment...

Staples "Let me just say something about the way it is being reported. If this was Alabama this was happening to, the auburn people wouldn't have any problem with the way it is being reported. They certainly had no problem with the way the news about Marcell Dareus was reported this summer."

I think it was actually a middle school game. I don't think that play would work in high school.

What gets me is, as soon as the stories started to filter out, SI and ESPN got all worried about his Heisman chances and started spinning the damage control.
