Ilya jeered after shootout fail

08:39 AM ET 11.11 | After failing to convert on a partial breakaway with under two minutes to play in a tie game, Ilya Kovalchuk heard the boos from the home crowd. [Trailing, 2-1, in the shootout, John MacLean] gave Kovalchuk a chance to turn the boos to cheers. Kovalchuk only made it worse, though. As he moved in on [Jhonas] Enroth, he tried to stickhandle and the puck rolled off his stick. He kept skating, leaving the puck behind him and the game was over. ... Kovalchuk is clearly pressing, possibly trying to justify in some way the 15-year, $100 million contract the Devils signed him to this summer. Nothing seems to have worked for him.

Honeymoon over already?

Hollywood couldn't write this stuff.

It sure is.
Then again, you score 4 goals, you should probably win the game. The entire team is a mess. But they have Brian Rolston coming back on Friday, so I am sure everything will turn around (says as sarcastically as he can).

It was a thing of beauty...

A burger at McDonalds, $1. Air jordan shoes, $33. Shootout goal, $100,000,000... oh wait.

It's one thing if he was slacking, but he plays well but is simply trying too hard. Once he relaxes, he'll be fine. As far as his price tag, his cap hit is reasonable so thats no big deal. He'll find his groove. The team as a whole is what concerns me far more than just Kovy.

I know it's early, but I never thought I would see the Devils in the basement, and more telling, dead last in the league in plus minus, and this by a large margin.

I like Brian Rolston - but sadly he shows as another example of a guy who was wayyyyyyy overpaid for his role on that team

You can probably get that cheaper from the spammers.

Seems like the NHL didn't need to dish out any punishment. Paying this guy $100 mil to watch him suck is punishment enough.

Agreed.

Outside of a Gretzky season, is there anything he can do that will make the salary worth it? This team is desparately bad right now.

Would your new avatar be a poppy in respect for Flanders Field?

The problem is the team is bad. Even if Kovy pulls a Gretzky season out of his hat, will it help if the team doesn't pull it together?

Yes it would. Canadians wear them for a couple of weeks before Remembrance Day (Veterans Day for you guys.) Thanks for noticing.

Absolutely. My dad served in the Air Force and my father-in-law spent a year fighting in Korea. Today should have the same importance attached to it as July 4, IMO.

He was absolutely invisible last night, and I love how he didn't even try to turn around and shoot the puck while he was still close to it. Past that Hedberg will give me a heart attack this year.

Which is weird, because Tallinder went from a solid defenseman to Dan McGillis overnight. Johan Hedberg was supposed to be the first good back up Brodeur has has in like 10 yrs. Well he has barely a .800 save percentage (that's wright .800) and his GAA is in the 6 range (might be over it at this point). Rolston, Volchenkov, Brodeur, Parise, Salvador all being hurt hasn't helped either. Sometimes the best plans go array. Good thing is they are only 5 points out of 8th seed, so with over 60 games left they still have time. Either that or someone is going to have to tell me who is the supposed first couple picks in next years draft.
