08:33 AM ET 11.13 | It's been a rough year for Harry Caray. First came the move of his statue, and now comes the news that the Cubs accidentally damaged it while making over the ballpark for the Nov. 20 Northwestern-Illinois football game. As Caray would say: "Boy, oh, boy." Less than three months after moving the Caray statue from the corner of Addison and Sheffield to outside the bleacher entrance at Sheffield and Waveland, the base was severely damaged, with a y-shaped crack that runs diagonally from the lower left corner to the upper right corner.

Duct tape. Problem solved.

Maybe they should try the same solution on their roster.

I don't how they're going to get it fixed. Getting someone on base hasn't been their strong suit.

I hope nothing happened to the statues of Gabby Hartnet Rogers Hornsby or Frank Chance. Oops, I'm sorry, there are no statues or recollection by modern Dubbie fans, who can't think of anything before the '69 debacle. The Cubs are still 2nd only to the Giants in total wins in the NL.
They can honor a caricature of a guy whose best professional days where long gone when he got there, but their really great Cubs.
Another rant for you Mom, Happy Birthday.

I guess Wrigley's refurbishment has already begun. Interesting place to start.

How appropriate! Harry's statue is standing outside Wrigley Field "smashed", just like Harry himself often was. I'm surprised the Cubbiess aren't trying to blame the accident on Steve Bartman, a black cat, or a goat.

He looks more like Daryl Mac from Run-DMC (minus the kangol)

Longevity has more to do with that than anything...

For comparison, Cubbies started in 1871, are 10346/9820/.513 all-time with a post-season record of 28/55/.337 and 2 world championships.

The Cards started 11 years later in 1882 and are 10,227/9,520/.518 all-time(only 119 wins behind) with a post-season record of 121/102/.543 and 10 world championships...and no Bartmanns or goats.

i have to agree with this. statues for Harry Caray but none for Ernie Banks? doesn't seem quite right.

HOOLLLLYYYY COOOOWWWW!!!!!!

I blame Steve Stone

it was Harry's Ghost. He had to put his famous net underneath the statue.

We could send Chip Carey back to Chicago. He'd be an excellent stand in for his Dad's statue & he needs a job that he won't screw up.

I always get Skip and Chip mixed up, too. Both sound like a name one might give a schnauzer.

There's a statute of Ernie Banks outside of Wrigley
