10:14 AM ET 11.14 | Dwight Howard wants to stay in Orlando, but those closest to him say that signing a contract extension this summer with the Magic isn't a gimme. Not "automatic" I'm told. Magic CEO Bob Vander Weide told me he wouldn't be surprised if Howard waits to make a decision, largely because of the uncertainty of the labor situation possibly affecting salary structures.

Is there an other dream team in the making?

November 14, 2010  10:39 AM ET

The way things are going in the NBA, I would say it's a safe bet that he's not gonna sign...

However, he is signed thru next year (player option for 2012 / 13)

oh no....not Dwight to team X for the next 2 years.....Switching the focus....obviously Dwight is considered the #1 center in the game today- my question is if he plays another whatever 8 years or so and averages roughly the same points and boards......is he a HOF'er>?

does he get a championship along the way?

Put a trade together with Denver that includes Lewis for Carmelo! Salaries match, magic would just need to include a number of extra sweeteners!
Win win.
Magic get their second superstar, and don't lose every other piece. And get rid of lewis' contract.
Denver don't lose Carmelo for nothing, get a guy that is better suited to the western conference, and possibly draft picks and other pieces (maybe Ryan Anderson)

That pic is HD/Blu-ray combined.

Won't sign. And shouldn't. Put the onus on management to priotize winning by putting right pieces around him.

I said this before Carter played a game in Magic uniform that Magic wouldn't go back to Finals. They didn't. I am sorry but they likely won't again this year either.

That said, can they trade for Carmelo? Carter has an expiring contract. They still have one of the best benchs in the league. Make use of the contract and the bench pieces. Magic have a deluge of PFs. Nuggets are hurting for healthy PFs. Forget Howard's feelings for his friend, Nelson. Make every one but Howard available. I think Otis Smith should be working on this, if he isn't already. Be realistic you can't beat Celtics or even Heat. So why wait to see how your team does till the trade deadline.

Whooops. Didn't see your post before putting mine up. Yup, I said the same thing you did too when Anthony rumors flared up. Magic should be all over this. Anthony could even be the first scorer. I think he should be while Howard focuses on what he does Best_ block shots, defend and rebound. Terrify everyone around the paint. Howard will get his points, no doubt. If Magic manage to keep Nelson, he then can be the third scoring punch.

Every elite player wants to be like the (LBJ) king.

Issel (ABA championship only), Lanier and Ewing are all in, so it isn't relevant. If he continues to be even 90% as productive, he is a lock with or without a title.

Howard leaving the Magic would be worse than James leaving the Cavaliers. Howard has teammates that can lead the team to a championship. Look back several years ago when they reached the finals. The only thing that the Magic staff need to add to an already impressive team is a closer, someone that can be clutch, not a big-name player(:

OK so now wer are about to have 100 threads about howard going to the knicks..bet on it

in my opinion they have a championship team now.......their flaw was howard had no post moves...so far this season his work with the dream has shown if he can continue then they are on track....I think he stays

on the contrary, i think Dwight would destroy the Threet; however, i agree that they absolutely should be making a push for melo. it's gonna be reaaaly easy for denver to get cold feet though.

Nobody in Denver wants Lewis. His contract is beyond ludicrous. And yes, I would literally rather have Melo walk for nothing than be saddled with Rashard's $22M salary for the next few years. If Orlando had to be the destination, I'd even rather have Vince (that hurt saying) and said sweeteners, even though Orlando's sweeteners aren't that great compared to other teams.

You can't have a Championship team if your team has Vince Carter.

the magic have a talented squad without howard dude. no one transcendent, but they would have a good team.

thats not true at all...

if howard forces the opponents to double team him he will open it up for carter, lewis, nelson and others..the problem was because of howards lack of post moves no one had to put two guys on him and they could stay home on the shooters

the reason shaq was so dominate with the lakers was if you doubled him he kicked it out and you were not dumb enough to leave him alone one on one
