Why is this a controversy? Where is the fracture? The team seems to be united behing Troy Smith. It's a no-brainer: start Smith the remainder of the season, and if he continues to be successful on the field, trade Alex Smith in the off-season (to the Vikings) for a decent draft pick.

Just what I didnt want to see; finding a fair to middle qb thats better than the junk we had, just good enough to beat the bad teams finally, making the season another 7-9 "promising end" and Sing and the rest get credit for "turning things around" "making progress!" and the rest of the stupid cliches 9er fans have had to put up with for the last 7 or so years. I suppose we'll also get bombarded now with the "we're gonna make the playoffs!" BS again from Sing and Yorkie. Blech

I agree with this other than the part about trading Alex Smith for a decent draft pick... the 9ers ain't getting squat for Smith anytime soon or ever, their only option is to release him. Smith will pretty much follow the career path of David Carr now...bounce around the league as a back-up.

He scouts the competition. When Alex Smith throws a pick he clocks the guy returning it. Then looks at the rest of his staff shrugs and says man that guy is fast.
