Upper hand on Forsberg's future
Dallas GM Doug Armstrong and Brett Hull, acting as his muscle, met with Peter Forsberg in Sweden to try to persuade him to bring his skates to Dallas if he decides to return to the NHL. Forsberg will consider only a handful of clubs. Right now, the Flyers still have the upper hand. And if the team keeps winning, that likely won't change.

Brett Hull as muscle? What, did they make him "an offer he can't refuse"?

OK, first off, this is old news. They met with Foppa what, last weekend? And it's already been in T&R. Second, if you read the article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, it ends with, "the Flyers still have the upper hand. And if the team keeps winning, that likely won't change." I'd love to know just exactly why they think that is. Nice for a paper to push for the hometown team, but while Philly may be in the mix, I don't see how they think they "have the upper hand."

They have the upper hand because Forsberg didn't lead the Flyers to glory the last two years. Personally, I think Forsberg didn't like leaving Philly the way he left it. It's a new and improved team that is winning. Senators and Avalanche are obviously other two possibilities, which both are equally possible. I'm surprised no one here as has mentioned the fact that the Flyers don't even have million bucks left under the cap. Atleast that's how they began the season. So if the Flyers would have the opportunity to sign Forsberg, it would be for almost nothing or someone on the Flyers would be hitting the road. Probably Umberger. I could see Forsberg in Philly again. I don't see how the Dallas Stars could persuade Forsberg to skate for them. They're a decent team...a play-off bound team again, but they're hardly elite compared to the strong teams in the West.

yeah, I would think that dallas is the long-shot of all the teams we have been forced to read about on this site. Ottawa is awesome, Philly sure looks like they are, Colorado for old time's sake (and they are good) or Detroit because they're Detroit. Dallas sucks - who would he have to play with there? A washed up Modano? Something tells me **** go elsewhere

The Flyers have 2.5 million in salary, and Forsberg will only be playing half a year, so I dont think money would be an issue. Forsberg feels he has unsettled business in Philly, and the way they are playing right now, he probably feels that he could come in and help the team get to the Cup. The other big thing Philly has over the other clubs is their equipment manager. Forsberg has built a very strong bond with the manager, and has said that philly was the only place that found a skate that worked with his foot problems. I feel Flyers are the early front runner, but it is still early and Forsberg is still not even healthy.

I agree with your guys take on why Forsberg would want to come back, but I'm not sure I would want him. We're going to spend half a season developng chemistry (look how we've develpoed already) and then insert the guy who wouldn't play because his skate was uncomfortable (even though he was our best player even if his foot fell off). Doesn't work for me.
Don't get me wrong, even though I'm a Flyer fan he was my favorite player for a decade. I just don't want him centering our 2nd or 3rd line for half a season. We don;t need him.

Damn, but the Wild could use Forsberg centering Gaborik and Demitra, but only if Forsberg opts into the NHL now. I agree with the earlier writer: in hockey, team chemistry, but more importantly line chemistry is paramount. On the otherhand, Forsberg is a veteran pro who could probably step right into centering Gabby and Demitra; even in February.
