Thrashers general manager Don Waddell is beginning the process of finding a new coach. Among the names mentioned are former Maple Leafs coach Pat Quinn, successful junior coach and ex-NHL player Marc Habscheid, Thrashers assistant coach Brad McCrimmon, Panthers assistant coach Mike Kitchen and Chicago Wolves (AHL) coach John Anderson

Boy there's a lot of Maple Leafs connections there. If Waddell hires Quinn, he's going to end up hiring his own replacement. Quinn has a history in Atlanta as a former Flame, so it's not out of the question that he's the front-runner.

It will probably be Pat Quinn. But my first choice would be Chicago Wolves coach John Anderson. He deserves a shot after toiling in the minors forever it seems. He's a good coach and a loyal trooper. Forget about Mike Kitchen. He's a good assistant but that's all he is! Not sure about McCrimmon or Habscheid with some of the characters they have on that team (Read: Ilya Kovalchuk here) (DC)

I'd still be surprised if Quinn signed on with this team. Its not like he's desperate. When you are the top coach in line for any job, why not wait till the right opportunity comes along? I certainly wouldn't dive back into coaching by taking on the coaching job of the worst team in the league, if I had the option. Also, on somewhat of a side note - did I hear that Pat Burns was coming back into the coaching game? Not necessarily with this team, but it'd be nice to see Burnsy behind the bench again - maybe back in Montreal if they fire Carbonneau!

Quinn would take this job, but he isn't the right man. Atlanta has quite a number of young, unproven players they are giving ice time to this season with the departures of players like Tkachuk, Sutton, DeVries and others. Quinn has never been a patient man with rookies or inexperienced players. He has a very short leash and few patience for guys learning on the job. The Thrashers should hire a coach with the ability to teach. However, Waddell is concerned about his own job, so winning now is a priority.
