09:25 AM ET 11.15 | While it will be days before doctors can make a complete diagnosis, it may be months before a return. [There] are unconfirmed reports that Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Andrei Markov could be out of the lineup for as long as three months. Markov suffered an injury to his surgically-repaired right knee Saturday night when he had a knee-to-knee collision with the Carolina Hurricanes' Eric Staal as they chased a puck into the corner. Markov's knee hit the board, but it appeared any damage had been done before then. He threw his gloves off immediately after the contact, punched the boards and lay writhing on the ice. Two teammates assisted him off the ice and he wasn't putting any weight on his leg.

I didn't see the hit, but knowing it was Staal, it seems obvious to me this was an accident. But, having not seen it, I gotta ask: Was it that bad of a hit, or was the knee weak because Markov came back early?

He is also brittle like quite a few seem to be. Either recently injured or about to return from injury.

That's got to hurt the Habs as he's a decent D-man. Might they be interested in Souray's services? He can help ... a little. Only problem would be, do the Habs want two brittles on the back end?

Well, the Isles just "removed" Gordon as their coach, bumping him up to "Advisor to the GM", Pat Quinn style.
Not sure what they plan to do now. If I'm an up and coming coach, there's no way I would take this job. If I was a well regarded coach who is out of work, I wouldn't take this job. The only way I would take it is if I were blacklisted by the league...and the Isles already fierd Ted Nolan for Gordon.
Hmm.
MacT seemed inable to work with young guys in Edmonton.
Pat Quinn seems done.
Would ANYONE hire Mike Keenan anymore?
How locked in is Hitchcock? Could he get out of his contract to take over this team?
I'd say Craig Hartsburg deserves another go, but he's laid up right now.
Bring Al Arbour back?

The hit was fine. Staal lifted his leg up to pull Markov back into the hit and it cause Markov to hit his knee in a difficult position. All-in-all it was a tough luck kind of hit. Markov has spent a lot of time working out to get back into shape to play on the knee only to have it taken out in one hit. Luckily the habs played well enough without him and they have a fairly deep defense corps - enough to swim for the next few months +...
Will be very interesting to see what happens come contract talk time with Markov though, he hasnt been very sturdy the last 3 season... but its equally hard to replace an all-star defenseman in this league all that easily.

This only reinforces that they never should have let Streit go...And yes he's hurt as well.
