No decision to be made on McGrew's future until offseason

10:50 AM ET 11.15 | Don't expect team Hendrick to rule on crew chief Lance McGrew's future any time soon -- or at least until the season is over and done with. "I ain't really making any decisions on that until after the season's over with," Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. "I asked (team owner) Rick (Hendrick) and everybody in the corporation if I could just not consider any options for next year or any ideas until we're done racing -- that I wanted to focus on what we're doing. I just wanted to get all I could out these last two races before I started thinking about that." McGrew's performance with the No. 88 has been disappointing since taking over for Tony Eury Jr. last year, prompting some to speculate that he'll be given the axe next season.

...WHO ... JR !

GOOD MORNING ALL!

One more race this season, and the tightest chase ever (even for those of us who hate the chase) and we get an article about speculation into the future? Come on T&R. Ever hear of the word "relevance"??? look it up!

November 15, 2010  11:39 AM ET

Yep, Pond, another incisive topical story. T&R keeps pissing on our leg and telling us it's raining.

It makes you wonder where FanNation gets there storys Or who the have fro writers, Good Day Again, gents, McGrew hasn't done to well with Jr, there has to be a reason WHY this driver can not get up there and run like he used to in the nationwide and early cup racing. Something is realy amiss.

November 15, 2010  12:47 PM ET

Seriously RH should dump Jr. and put Kasey in the 88. Why that won't happen, let me count the ways.
1.) You don't mess with the "Cash Cow" that Jr. brings to the track.
2.) Money Money and Money.
3.) The 88 could actually end up in the winners circle, would not want that.

4.), 5.) thru 100,000.) The move would empty the few remaining seats that have fans in them.

Really what is left when Jr. and Jeff leave?

at the risk of my home and family, I got to ask out loud, is the problem really the crew chiefs? There have been a number of them now.

$$$$ talks in this sport.. i dont see dale jr going anywhere any time soon..

the only thing left would be the 4 toyota fans in the stands

Here I'll stick my neck out with Pond.

I agree with the questioning of the problem being the crew chief.

That being said I don't think it's the driver as much as the results would indicate. We know Jr. has won before, and multiple times in one season. i am thinking it may just be the corporate culture of Hendrick Motorsports. In any situation you have your winners (Jimmie Johnson) and your everyone else (Every driver at Hendrick not named Jimmie Johnson). Not everyone can get the top equipment so you have to pick one for the preferential treatment and let the others get the rest, and ultimately one guy gets the worst.

You can see it in other 4 car teams too. David Regan is it at Rousch, Casey Mears last year at RCR, Elliott Sadiler at the still on life support RPM, and I could go on. Someone has to be the low man on the pole and sadly it looks like Jr is it at Hendrick.

But honestly is that a surprise? The team used to be the old 25 crew and equipment and they didn't do much then either. Certainly no better then they are doing now.

LOL, who knows.. its been down hill since tony sr was his cc.. if jimmie wins #5 next week, hendrick should break that team up and send knaus over to the 88.. that would pretty much tell the tale

To tell you the truth if jj wins #5 in row, and Mark my words, Nascar will see an attendance drop like never befor, they need to curb him, there ARE other teams at HMS the are just as good, Jr included, I think it's all about Money Big time. Any one agree? I can't run for cover.LOL

I was saying the same thing last year about the 4-peat, but then again I have been partially right after reading about the TV/attendance drop this year. 5-10% for the "regular season", and 15-20% for the "post season". I don't think they can take another hit like that next year.

Saw an article a couple weeks ago that ESPN/ABC doesnt feel that the switch to 9 of 10 chase races to ESPN channels from "broadcast" channels of ABC affiliates had any effect.. All I could respond was "are you serious? I have THREE personal friends who, due to layoffs of at least one income producing member of the family, have had to cancel satellite or cable and will, on occassion, come watch with me, here. And ESPN things their viewership ratings arenet affected.. Granted. My unscientific poll of THREE means nothing, but it doesnt take a Doctorate to figure out people have tightened their belts.

i 100% agree, thats why i think IF jimmie happens to win #5 in a row, hendrick might break the team up for the good of the sport (i bet NASCAR will beg him to do it).. then he could send Knaus over to get his cash machine rolling again..

Thats a good thought, svt , But I just don't see Hendrick giving up anything that has to do with $$$, It used to be that the owners cared about their drivers and teams, not anymore, it's how fast can I get to the Bank. He should break up the team, but it won't happen.

ok folks...I am a Jr fan for the long haul......But I have some mixed feelings about Chad as Jr's CC.....and not because of Chad.......
Reason #1: Jr did best with Eury Sr......every other CC since then is much younger and while they have quality, they are missing the one thing Jr responds to....and that is the "daddy syndrome"....I mean that with all sincere respect......
Reason #2: he has done absolutely krappy in the COT......
Reason #3....I am not sure Chad would have the patience for Jr's confidence problems. I think having the best CC in the garage would only add to his pressure.

But having said that....if Chad cannot fix it, then there is no one else that can. (other than Pops).

November 15, 2010  05:41 PM ET

And yes I am afully ware that we are fantasizing about Chad being Jr's CC LOL
