Semin's days numbered in Washington?

08:33 AM ET 11.16 | Alexander Semin may price himself out of his own team's market. Semin's 100-point pace is sure to get him on the radar of teams looking to add offense when his one-year deal with the Capitals expires at the end of this season. ... How much would it take to keep Semin? If he he continues to strike fear in the hearts of opposing goalies, the Capitals may not be able to afford him -- especially with eight unrestricted free agents (including Brooks Laich, Matt Bradley, Mike Knuble and Tomas Fleischmann), restricted free agents Karl Alzner and Semyon Varlamov and Mike Green's contract expiring a year later.

The cap strikes again.

If only he had a heart..

November 16, 2010  08:52 AM ET

also depends if he just wants the $$ or wants to keep playing for a winner...
I believe Jeff Carter just took a nice hometown discount to stay with Philly for 10 years

As long as there're Democrats there'll be "Semin" in Washington. (too much?)

Too early...

Think Ovie would restructure his contract in order to keep a couple UFAs?

I think he very well might. I'm sure the Caps have already spoken with his agent. There are too many guys coming up that can demand, and get, big money for Ovie to be able to keep 'em all though.

But i like the semin comment

Just for you Slappy.

I'm pretty sure that no one can restructure their contract, so no. Plus really it's a difference of $700-$800k than some Penguin superstars so it doesn't seem to be that outrageous.

I LOVE that clip. As I said earlier this week, the Caps on the bench couldn't keep from laughing. I think Semin ought to be hunting for Avery, Carcillo and Cooke. He could probably knock 'em all out without even needing new make-up put on. Thanks again!

He thought Staal said it was Thunder Bay rules...

I bet he would

Kill the cap.

November 16, 2010  11:02 AM ET

Can't renegotiate existing contracts under the current CBA.

Its an easy decision to let this guy go. He's too inconsistent for that kind of money, and he disappears in big games. Nobody gives the Tin Man $10mil a year to keep searching for his heart.

And I don't think Carter left that much money on the table, personally. I'd be surprised if he were worth a whole lot more than the $5.5 or so a year that he'll be getting. He's a great player, and I'm a fan for sure, but he's supporting cast, not a Show Runner.

Caps you got to lock him up.....get it done!

Very smart move by Carter! He's a streaky player IMO. Giroux on the other hand is turning into a great player from what it looks like.

Slit its throat.
Drink its blood.

But who knows Jeff Vanderbeek might very well be looking to maneuver to get another heartless Russian on the team for more money than he has.

I laugh every time I go to a Caps game and see someone wearing a Semin jersey.
