Signs point to Ballard being healthy

08:28 AM ET 11.16 | Before the Canucks took on Buffalo Monday night, Vancouver defenseman Keith Ballard was a likely scratch, and there is some intrigue over whether he's healthy. The real reason Ballard isn't playing: he hasn't been good enough. ... While it's true that Ballard's conditioning and overall performance have been undermined by major hip surgery last summer and a concussion in October, he is practicing every day and skating hard to try to bring up his conditioning level. He may not be 100 percent, but is not "injured." If he were actually suffering lingering effects from his concussion, the Canucks would be risking a huge lawsuit and their hard-earned reputation as a desirable destination for players by making Ballard practice.

But the coach flat out said that Ballard isn't good enough right now to be in the lineup, and he's been officially tagged as a "Healthy Scratch", so why exactly is this coming up?

Thought it might be the TORONTO Sun, not the Vancouver Sun...same quality of work apparently.

I'm kind of confused on the story as well. They are saying he is healthy, so is that the sign that is pointing to him being healthy. Maybe they need a flashing neon light following him around that reads Is Healthy.

He's just recharging his hydrogen fuel cells.

Perhaps the Canucks should just come out and say they made a mistake by signing this guy...Or maybe they're going to throw some McNabb money at him and fool us all.

I'm thinking if he can't beat out Rome and Alberts he's probably not worth much anyway.

LMAO!!! HA!

I pictured him walking around with the sign, and it flickers when he stumbles!

He's looking like he's just another in a long list of players who look good on garbage teams but don't end up being worth much once they leave.

Maybe it's his hamstring. Or possibly his cardiovascular conditioning. Or, he hasn't grasped the 2-minute power play offense. Or......

Duh! What was I thinking. First they sign a huge contract, then they go out and stink up the place. ;)

And I'm thinking Roberta Luongo would look good in them Rick Di Pietro pink pads and catchers.

Ths Islanders are messed up enough as it is. No need to heap it on by putting Robooby Lou there.

Besides, I like it when he crashes and burns in Vancouver at playoff time.

One day Robooby sweaters are all over town, those lame arsed flags are on almost every car antenna or window.

The next day? Zip. Zilch. Nada.

It's a perfect system.

I saw a pickup this morning with two Flames window flags. It had a flat.

Flames fans should have no expectations of great things to come.

Canucks fans start every year cup bound, then manically go up and down all year until the inevitable crash and burn.

Rangers fans start every year praying Lundqvist stays healthy and that Sather will fall out of his luxury box and land on Dolan. It's a pipe dream because Dolan doesn't go to Ranger games but maybe Sather can go to a Knicks game.

He may do that if the Knicks hire Isiah Thomas back so he has somebody with as much talent as he does to talk to.
