Bowden considering QB change

Bobby Bowden isn't ready to make a commitment to a youth movement just yet, but with his Florida State football team continuing to flounder, he's certainly open to making changes. Bowden and offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will meet today and undoubtedly discuss a number of possibilities, which could include Benching Xavier Lee in favor of former starter Drew Weatherford, or Giving redshirt freshmen quarterbacks D'Vontrey Richardson and Christian Ponder a closer look.

no, no, noooooo! no more Weatherford.......pleeezzzzz! i'd much rather see Fisher give Richardson or Ponder a chance to play.

There is no answer on that sideline. Drew is terrible. Lee has potential but he plays scared to death and has no ball security. Not to mention he can't make a 5 yard throw.

The only change that needs to be made at this point is Bowden retiring

yeah, what was up with those weak throws in the 4th qtr? he must have been tired b/c that was just awful.....he couldn't even throw it out in the flat....the ball landed at the receiver's feet three times in a row......wake me when it's over. :-)

Right now I think I could go be the FlSt QB.

Maybe it would be worth giving the redshirt freshmen a look. I think Weatherford has had enough chances and Lee hasn't done well with his chance.

"Daggumit!!!! Get me a **** that can play!"

Lee plays like an incredible athlete that has never even put pads on before. Like this is his first year in organized football. He is scared to DEATH out there!

I just cant wait till EJ Manuel (5 star # 1 prostyle QB) gets here. Then again X was a 5 star with a number 1 rank too. Who knows...

October 22, 2007  01:58 PM ET

Very True Chris, but Lee was the number 1 dual threat. Word on the street is this Manuel kid is a pocket passer first

Bowden and JoePA need to retire and let those great schools get back the national respect they have earned, but lost the last few years.

October 22, 2007  03:19 PM ET

Bowden and JoePa should coach until they want to. they have earn it.

October 22, 2007  03:22 PM ET

yep just run those teams into the ground.....

October 22, 2007  03:36 PM ET

salvage some pride and retire for sure

who cares about a record

Bobby Bowden should stay as long as he wants. All the critics in here probably weren't fans of FSU until Bobby came along and made it a powerhouse. The man deserves respect from Nole fans for sure.

You da man Bobby!

Bobby Bowden IS Florida State Football...No Bobby, NO TITLES! I love FSU football like you don't even know and I don't care if we go 0-12 for the next 4 years...BOBBY STAYS UNTIL HE'S READY TO LEAVE, period.

In this case, you can not separate the program from the man. Think about it, how many times back in the day do you think Coach Bowden turned down "better" offers, college or pro, to stay at FSU? It's called LOYALTY, folks and a lack of it is why pro football sucks compared to college.

I'd have to agree with most people here -- Bobby Bowden is florida state football! Both him and JoePa should be able to stay as long as they'd like. In over 31 seasons at FSU he's had ONE losing season, which happened to be his first one. I mean, while under Bowden FSU had finished 14 straight seasons in the top 5 of the AP poll. Let him retire on his own terms!!

October 22, 2007  10:28 PM ET

its not bobby because he doesnt coach anyways he just stands on the sidelines. everyone needs to calm down because these two crappy quarterbacks were recruited by JEFF BOWDEN, when Jimbo gets a couple "JaMarcus Russels" in there and FSU will be back. Its proven that these two quarterbacks do not have what it takes to play big time football. they need to stop playing scared and learn to throw the ball out of bounds if they have no play. dont take the sake, dont throw the ball 100mph to a guy that is 5 yrds away and throw the ball to him, not to his feet. I think the season has gone down the drain again so lets see Ponder or Richardson. GO Noles

What will firing Bobby Bowden do ... that man put FSU on the map! He goes when he wants to and on his own terms. END OF CONVERSATION. As far as the critques go, it is easy to point fingers but try and do what these coaches do ... not many of the REALLY good ones around. Bobby is one of the REALLY good ones. He'll figure it out ... and if he can't or he'll know it's time to retire. My money is that he will get job done in the next season or two and go out on top! Any one want to make that bet?
