08:13 AM ET 11.17 | The Mets are taking the occasion of the GM meetings to further narrow their search. New York's managerial hunt entered the home stretch Tuesday night with Terry Collins, Bob Melvin, Chip Hale and Wally Backman as the final candidates, according to assistant general manager John Ricco. The finalists will receive second interviews by GM Sandy Alderson and his staff, likely beginning Wednesday at the GM Meetings. The interview process should be completed by the end of the week, with a decision likely coming next week.

Shake things up... give the job to Backman. If anyone can light a fire under a bunch of overpaid, non-hustling, lackluster "stars", it's him.

Besides, if you read the message boards, he's the fan's choice. And Wilpon needs to cultivate as many of those as possible right now.

That and having him try to sniff the foul lines every seventh inning would be great fan activity. It can go up there with singing that stupid Neil Diamond song in Boston.

HA! This was a funny thread. I'm sorry I didn't participate earlier.

The Mets should wait until after Thanksgiving. I hear the leftovers are better anyway.

The Mets are making the hiring of their new manager to be one long drawn out soap opera. This is insane, interview these guys and then name a manager. It's been done hundreds of times before. The Mets need to make a big ordeal over this because that's all they will give their fans this off season.
