Rangers too costly for Czech game?

Having opened this season in London with a two-game series between Anaheim and Los Angeles, the NHL is close to awarding the opener for next season to a more avid hockey country - the Czech Republic. As you might imagine, there are several prominent Rangers who are dying to play there. What's more, the company that would stage the games at Prague's Sazka Arena not only wants the Rangers badly, it might need them to make the event a success. There's only one problem: The cost of buying the Rangers out of one of their home games (ballpark: $2 million) is higher than that for any team in the NHL other than Toronto. And Ceska Sportovni's initial bid didn't reach that high. So the NHL approached other teams - Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.

well, that explains why those teams were picked - I remember wondering when they first made this plan public why the Rangers weren't one fo the teams. I know now

I think if Bettman wants to take teams all over the world to try and bolster the popularity of the sporty his is slowing killing then he should come from the hip along with the owners to have it happen.

Just play the freaking games in North America (WHERE THE FANS ARE) and quit trying to have games all over the world.........

From where Bettman is heading in this direction, expect an announcment that a game will be hosted in the third moon of jupiter sometime next summer... Either that or the nearest solar system next to ours.

You mean the Rangers won't do it out of the goodness of their heart and for the love of the game? Hmmmm. (DC)

Why did they even bother going to England? Did they think that the locals would confuse it for soccer? They should have gone to the Czech all along. Or maybe they just could have played it in Anaheim. Either way, don't go to England!

Hi, folks! I live near Prague and I thing that if it wont be Rangers people here will be really upset. Not me, Im Pens fan, but I understand that. Duel between Jags NYR a 87 Pit will be definitely better than see dumb Lightning.

JAGS PROB WONT EVEN BE A RANGER NEXT YEAR.... THEY DONT HAVE THE CASH TO KEEP HIM....... but still RANGERS-PENS in PRAHA makes lot more sence and with todays **** U.S. dollar i doubt its the 2mil. thats holding it back.

IRISH..... LONDON is a GREAT, GREAT city for any sports event and they do like hockey in ENG. too, even they are not that good at it. London is easy to travel, to from any country in Europe and it makes it much better for the teams also, as travel from U.S. isnt bad at all.
