Yankees: Jeter can test market

08:22 AM ET 11.18 | Though few believe Derek Jeter would sign elsewhere, the Yankees appear uninterested in making it a fait accompli. Yankee president Randy Levine said Wednesday that Jeter is "allowed to test the market" and that it's "a different negotiation than 10 years ago," adding further intrigue to the developing talks with the free-agent shortstop. ... "All I can say is we think he's a great Yankee, we think he's been a great Yankee and we've been great for him and this is the best place for him," Levine said. "But he's a free agent and he's allowed to test the market and do whatever he wants."

Who's #1?
Here we go, everybody with an ounce of brain matter knows Jete isn't leaving Gotham.

Of course he can check the market. Who's gonna bid on a 44 year old slap hitter with the mobility of a glacier? Wait, if Omar Minaya is out there, I'm certain he'd bid for him. Assuming Omar finds a job.

Well well well....aren't you just the cats meow. Gotham? I bet you fancy yourself like one of those cool dudes with the fedora's sipping dry martini's. Gotham? REALLY? I see a liquid plumber enema in the not too distant future for you.

I have more of a chance to sign with a club other than the Yankees than Derek Jeter does.... and I'm a 55 year old IT professional who has not even played softball since 1988!!!

The NY Daily News wasted newsprint on this article... Derek Jeter is going nowhere...

Sounds like they're trying to lowball their Captain.........interesting.

I can certainly confirm this because by all accounts, you led the league in strikeouts during the 1988 slow pitch softball league. You really ssuucckk.

of course he's free to test the market but there is 0 chance of him signing anywhere but NY...

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from the front office but since the old man is gone the young execs are trying to show how the front office future is going to deal with superstars. Bottom line is it will be all show because Jeter is going nowhere.

So, they're all "show" just like your post. All those words just to say Jeter isnt going anywhere? punk

And he'll probably have it signed by tomorrow.

im a hardcore red sox fan and even ill admit that it would be a sad day in baseball to see jeter suit up in another jersey. he has been the heart of this team for over a decade and deserves to retire as the greatest yankee of all time. ive always said that the one red sox yankee game id want to go to over all others would be jeters last game at fenway, just to be there to salute him along with the rest of red sox nation. i know chances are slim that he would sign some where else but all it takes is a few million more a year to make him listen to another club. yankees dont be stupid and resign the man as fast as possible, you know a riot in yankee stadium will happen if you dont
