09:06 AM ET 11.20 | The question on the minds of Braves fans: Can GM Frank Wren and the Braves get Dan Uggla to stay in Atlanta long-term, or will he play just one season before leaving as a free agent? Both sides indicated Friday that a multi-year contract extension is something they would seriously pursue, and Uggla and Wren both seemed sincere about wanting it to happen. "It's something we have to sit down and talk about and discuss," said Uggla, who turned down a four-year, $48 million offer from the Marlins, reportedly submitting a counterproposal of five years, $71 million.

It could be spin, but he's from Tennessee and seems real happy that his family and friends can drive down to a game. Tim Hudson, from Alabama, and Chipper from N. Florida also took discounts to be close to home. So, it's possible. I can't see the Braves agreeing to the 5 yrs/$72M he alledgedly told the Marlins he wanted. But maybe he wanted to force a trade to get out of that hell hole.

Tim Hudson is from Georgia. Went to school at Auburn, but i do agree that the Braves will not give him the 5 year/$71mil that he wants.

Hudson was raised in Phenix City, Alabama. He lives near Atlanta now (obviously, since he plays on the Braves), but is building a home in Auburn, Alabama, where is family lives.

The Strike out king and his defense is lame

The difference is only 2 mil a year. 4 years vs 5. This can be worked out if he wants to stay in Atlanta.

Holy ****. Are those notches shaved into the side of his head and eyebrow ala Vanilla Ice? What does he think this is? 1993? And the NBA?

the braves needs to act wisely and don't make the same mistake they did 3 years ago, when they had texeira from the rangers just to trade him back to the angels!

smart way to do things for the braves its to sign uggla to a five years at fair deal, and just try to keep addin the right players on this team it would be very nice for this team to compete with a strong offense and good pitching which they already have!

The only things gayer than that haircut are assless chaps. I think the Giants may have just found their marketing angle for him.
