Why Tavares won't re-sign with Isles

10:05 AM ET 11.21 | Islanders replacement coach Jack Capuano was 6-9 with Bridgeport and hadn't guided the Isles' top farm club to a playoff series win in four seasons, making him a perfect fit for the worst-run franchise in pro sports. The Isles haven't won a playoff round since 1993, which is just one of the many reasons why John Tavares will inevitably refuse to re-sign with the club after next season.

Why Tavares won't re-sign with Isles
A far more interesting article - Why Tavares would re-sign with Isles.
Canuck eh?

I've been an Islander Fan since back in the day... Way back in the day... 4 cups back in the day...
It's a Joke what the Isles have become...
They are not only an afterthought in the NY Hockey scene, but an afterthought around the league...
You look at the number franchises that have hit the bottom and come back to have some level of success.. Some teams have made the journey more than once since the Isles have last won a playoff series (and anyone who was paying attention in '93 knew they were fortunate to win that series)...
The Isles aren't even in the discussion when it comes to Free Agents.
I could on and on - so I'll just stop here :-)

Worst ran franchise in pro sports? Maybe. The Rangers are definitely up there as well. Given their resourses they should have multiple cup since 93. This article about Glen Sather pretty much sums it up:

I'm not even going to read the article, but I get the feeling that next week, we will be given an article about how Tavares is going to go to Toronto blah blah blah and whatever other garbage the Toronoto Sun feels like spewing.

We all know the Pittsburgh Pirates are the worst run franchise in pro sports. Let's not kid ourselves. The Islanders may be in the top 5 with the bone head contracts they've thrown out there (see: Rick Dipietro) but they could be a whole lot worse. They have the talent, the guys just aren't playing. Tavares, Bailey, P.A.P, Moulson, Wisniewski, are all good hockey players but they have to come to play and they aren't. Either way, where ever Tavares ends up he won't be an elite scorer if he doesn't show up every night.

Di Pietro should be demoted to the AHL to try to find his game. Problem with that is, if they do, they'll be under the cap minimum. The league needs to step in. Wong is a disgrace.

"Refuse to re-sign with the club after next season"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he signed for three years?

Typical Toronto Sun hypocrisy.
They gloss over Toronto's haplessness to randomly take a shot at the Isles.

I feel terrible for the Isles franchise, Wong is not a villain in this though. He has lost so much money owning this franchise.
He just needs to but out of the hockey side of the business.

Oops...Forgot that entry level contracts were three and not four years total.

Yeah, why would he? I'm sure he'd rather be in Edmonton ... or ... even Toronto ......! Nah! That'd be asking too much!

Isn't it a bit early to be talking about this, what with him still being with the Islanders and his rookie contract?

Seriously.
But, this is what I have come to expect of a Toronto paper's hockey section.
Just pure optimism, hoping he'll come to the Leafs.

He will be a RFA meaning the Isles could match or take the draft picks if there is an offer sheet.

That would rule out the Leafs. They don't have any draft picks.

I would love to see him come to T.O, and it would be a great fit! The Fans allready love him, as he's a hometown boy. He'd be a franchise player for the next 15+ years, so it would be great for T.O, and I think that Tavares(if T.O can meet his demands) might just bite at the chance to play for the Leafs.
If he does........you heard it hear first! LOL
I'm not as vigilante as ARGO's, but I dream big too! :)

Agree, but it's disheartening to show up for nothing. I'm not condoning being lazy, at all when it comes to pro athletes making pro money, and doing diddly.
I haven't had the plaesure(sarcasm) of watching a game this year(Isles), so I won't pretend to know all that is happening there, but unless the management of that team, and the community don't turn this around, the whole team will be moving, and players will scatter as well..........well except Rickety, who BTW played great tonight IMO!
