08:30 AM ET 11.22 | Mike Belloti has pulled out of the running, though Colorado may already have their man. All due respect to CU's distinguished search committee, but Brian Cabral is one win away from making its work unnecessary. ... In two games as interim coach, Cabral has already delivered back-to-back wins over Big 12 North opponents, something Colorado hadn't done since 2005. "If you don't look at Coach Cabral as a serious candidate, I don't know, man," said defensive end Josh Hartigan, shaking his head.

Waiting on him to get the job, then they'll go back to their ways of losing.

I always thought the "decent" process was to eliminate any internal candidates before you even mention outside. Shows you what I know.

These interim coaches made permanent coach hardly ever seem to work out. Might want to keep up the search and then see later if he is the best hire or not.

Two games, huh? I recommend giving it a little more time.
But the player's quote seems like quite a vote of confidence on behalf of the team. Maybe Nebraska should listen to the student-athletes for a change.

If he was not already on everyone's radar as an assistant who would be a head coach I would be a little skepticle.

Good point. I'll stand by my original sentence. Guy needs more time to prove himself.

I think you are giving Larry Coker a lot of credit. His NC was one in his first year. His second year was good but still with someone elses recruits. After that did'nt the wheels start to come off?

Let's be honest -- does CU really have anything to lose by giving an HC shot to a guy who seems to have the respect of the players??? It's not like their program could go any further downhill....

He might end up being good, but here are a few examples of good coaches being followed by 'popular' guys from their staff...
Michigan State: Bobby Williams followed Nick Saban
West Virginia: Bill Stewart followed RichRod
Notre Dame: Bob Davie followed Lou Holtz
It doesn't seem to work very well from the small sample that came to mind.

Better to hire Bear Bryant's corpse then hire Randy Shannon. He seems to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory whenever possible.

This seems to be a "we really don't have the budget to go for an outside hire" decision.
