Lions already on the clock?

08:04 AM ET 11.23 | With the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the ... Lions pick? You know you're a bad team when you must catalogue the weird stuff because it happens so frequently. Those who have seen it too often are now mercifully anesthetized. They are happily numb. For all the supposed improvement the Lions have made this season, they're nonetheless in position again to contend for the first pick in April's draft -- because Buffalo got its second victory Sunday.

Well, at least they've made some moves in the right direction. It's hard to break out of mediocrity after so long.

Hey now, the Panthers suck too. They're competing for the worst record.

November 23, 2010  08:08 AM ET

I thought the Panthers were on the clock. 1-9 looks good!

November 23, 2010  08:13 AM ET

Come on the lions have a few more wins in them this year. they have been in all the games they have played.

But not this week.

So, I guess what he's saying is that they hit rock bottom and kept digging.

"With the first pick, the Detroit Lions pick... A new shoulder for Matthew Stafford."

November 23, 2010  08:20 AM ET

The Lions will end the season with more wins then Buffalo.

November 23, 2010  08:21 AM ET

I believe the panthers may have something to say about their number 1 pick. 1-15 for my panthers sounds about right

I know it's wishful thinking, but I think Thanksgiving game will be much closer than we think.

Lions, Cowboys, Bills and Vikings? What is this, the obituary section? Are they cleaning out their box of old photos of people we'll never see again, or what?

In the case of Phillips, Childress and Merriman....YES!

This is the crap we get on the weekends, they must have their days mixed up.

It's a holiday week so the interns are on weekend mode.

November 23, 2010  08:28 AM ET

The Pats will help this along on Thursday...

Maybe for the first half. Then the Pats wake up and pile it on (like going for the xtra stuffing) in the second half.

Yeah, the Pats seldom cover big spreads. They'll run up the score, and then sit back and play soft D in the fourth quarter. Detroit will sign Melody, the freckle-faced 10-year-old girl who wins the punt, pass and kick competition at halftime, who will lead them to 2 fourth-quarter scores before throwing a pick in the red zone to end the comeback.

November 23, 2010  08:44 AM ET

this team's getting close, they got some great pieces in place. They really need to work on that 0-line, it's not a coincidence that Best, Stafford, and Johnson have all gotten hurt at some point this season. Suh is the best player to come out of college and contribute rightaway maybe in the last 20 years.

November 23, 2010  08:49 AM ET

They are headed in the right direction because they have made solid picks. That won't change this draft. They are competitive this season, keep Stafford healthy and these boys will have a winning record next year.

If the Lions do wind up with the top pick, they could be in an enviable position. The major also-rans (Bills, Panthers, Cardinals, Vikings) all need QB's, and they could get into a bidding war for the right to pick Luck or one of the other top prospects. Lions could trade down a few spots and still come out with a good OL pick and some extra picks as well.
