Difficult decisions loom for Brown

08:19 AM ET 11.26 | Mack Brown's worst season on the sidelines at Texas is over. But Brown needs to be very careful in assessing why a preseason top 10 team sank to such levels that it too often looked worse even than its record -- and then correct it. He has to deliberate and make the tough choices about who remains on his staff. It's hard to imagine beleaguered offensive line coach Mac McWhorter returning, and Brown has to ask himself if offensive coordinator Greg Davis has called his last hitch pass.

Big bucks = difficult decisions.

Davis (see avatar), Tolleson, Giles, Fat Dog Madden and McWhorter = GTFO. We shall hear of changes very very soon. Retirements, reassignments and firings are on the horizon.

What does the wording say on your avatar FJJ? (Too small for these old eyes to read.)

Yep. He can no longer defend Davis. Time for a new direction on offense.

FJJ, no Muschamp on your GTFO list?

November 26, 2010  09:11 AM ET

FJJ or anyone, will the Big 12 invite anyone else (TCU, Houston) or keep it at 10? Big difference in money with no championship game, right?

Also, do people in Austin still think Muschamp is the second coming?

I don't think they let him go.However, if changes are not made WM may leave on his own accord for a lateral position or HC gig someplace else.

Sometime you just have to shake the etch-a-sketch and start all over instead of trying to clean it up a little at a time. And when you do that there is usually collateral damage.

FJJ probably knows the most King. Rumor has it UTx AD has a running fued going with the Houston AD but don't know about the rest of the Big 12.

Yeah but I think they go for and at least should go for a big splash on the offensive side. I am still comfortable with WM as DC and Akina coaching the DB's.

It's a house of cards............Texas is kinda like a wife........If Texas ain't happy.......nobody's happy.....If they can't dominate and run the big 12......Things will change sooner rather than later

This is someone's fault...

You go in a recruit a kid who throws one of the most beautiful deep balls in college football and then have the great idea to make him run the same offense as Vince Young/Colt McCoy with no adjustments and provide hm no O-line...

A duck can't run a hamster wheel!

I haven't heard anything about adding teams and those two wouldn't really put butts in seats so even if they did it wouldn't be them. They WM love is wearing off. I'd say its about a 60-40 split on him right now. Which is to say not good.

Those two teams just seem the most logical to me. TCU is obviously good and Houston could compete with a few years of recruiting Big 12 conference type players.

I just wonder what the long term solution is for the Big 12. 12 is the magic number for a conference championship game (more $.) Everyone is expanding so I just assume Big 12 would want to follow suit.

I don't think bigger conferences are the answer. I would think you would get more cross conference challanges if you keep the conference to 10 to 12. Also don't allow to shedule games out of your class...divI playing divII teams....That's just silly

One decision Ol baby brown won't have to make is if the Dawgs come callin Muschamp goes walkin with the Dawgs.

Totally agree on this. There's plenty of bad Div I teams to schedule out there. heh heh

And plenty of good Div 1 teams to schedule but nobody will do that! Might give the fans something good to watch in OOC but we wouldn't want to do that would we?

Must pad the wins for late season....

Definitely not the picture of a happy camper.

The Tale of Two Seasons

November 26, 2010  12:18 PM ET

Just my opinion, with Texas starting their own network, I really see the big picture as wanting to be indpependent. Season's like this won't help. Again, just my opinion, but the Big 2L8, will have to add 2 teams and get a CCG, otherwise, just a matter of time before a Texas or Oklahoma gets left out of a NC game due to being jumped by a CCG winner.

November 26, 2010  12:32 PM ET
QUOTE:

I will give WM a pass. The middle of the line was always suspect coming into the year and the lack of depth or talent was a known quantity. Teams that ran on them ran up the middle. DT play has been horrible. Not sure there is much WM can do about that and WM should bench Gideon for someone who can tackle and play position

That's weird because he claimed before the season this was probably one of his best defenses ever.

There's nothing wrong with Texas that a little SEC speed and players could fix.
