08:42 AM ET 11.27 | The agent for Derek Jeter said a published report yesterday stating the free agent shortstop was asking for a six-year, $150 million deal from the Yankees is untrue. "The recently rumored terms of our contract proposal are simply inaccurate," agent Casey Close wrote in an e-mail. The Yankees and Jeter have been engaged in a standoff over what the 36-year-old shortstop deserves. The Yankees made an offer of three years, $45 million, but Jeter wants more years and money.

If Jeter made some big hits against the Rangers perhaps I still wouldn't be so VEXXXED at him and careless what happens to him

Most likely the Yankees PR Machine trying to make Derek look like a selfish money grabber, and trying to get the fans to turn on him.

Yeah, but the Yanks can afford it.

Just making the comment, more tongue in cheek, because if that was a Red Sox player in the same situation, that would be the response from most Yankee fans on this site. But I also believe both sided want to make the other look like the bad guy.

Unless Jeter is willing to say publicly exactly how much he wants, then he and his agent should just shut up. He wants it both ways. He better be careful if it is fan support he is after. He is losing it fast.
If I am the Yankees I offer 3 years, 45 million and let him know at some point we have to look elsewhere and put money in other places....It is a very fair offer.

There may be some truth to it. It is not like he has ever been under paid or under appreciated. Until he says what he wants, his bottom line, then I have no doubt his agent wants way more than he is worth. Jeter is playing the same game of PR as the team. The same.

I hope Jeter gets $45 million for three years at a minimum. Tie up more Yankee money so as not to do further damage to baseball. Another $120 to $150 for Lee over 5 or 6 years, priceless.

Bingo...
... which is classless and unnecessary.
The kind of manueveur one would do if they don't want the player to return. Not to a player that has shown class throughout his entire career and been a solid contributor.
Regardless, he still resigns with Yanks for 3 years with a 10% salary increase.
