08:54 AM ET 11.27 | Nearly a week later, Wally Backman is still having trouble coming to grips with the Mets' decision not to hire him as their new manager. "I really thought I won them over," Backman said by phone Friday from his home in Oregon. "I came out of each interview thinking it had gone better than the one with the Diamondbacks when I got the job there (in 2004). "I knew what was being said (in the media), that the other guys were the favorites, but I kept looking at it, thinking I could make them see that I was the best guy for the job. I guess I didn't convince them."

Count your blessings Wally.............

Most Met Fans can't believe it either, but considering the fact that the team is now being restructured into a small market team by MLB it might be just as well. The GM troika won't even be at Citifield. Expect a fire sale of talent and a sabermetric restocking with woops wars and oops. Lets go Mess

They saved you some ulcers and loss of hair Wally. You ought to be thanking them...

Backman was surprised that Alderson picked someone that agreed with everything the Wilpons want just like he did? The team is ok for now, the stadium is ok for now, we'll have money for free agency in the future, but we don't want to not overspend when we do have money so we can be active in free agency in subsequent years. The Wilpon's bought cover for their bullsh*t.

Unless you want to spend the next few years managing a team that spends more money than the competition, but struggles to come in third place in their Division, count your lucky stars that you missed out on this one. The Mets will always be the red-headed stepchild in New York anyway.

Wally... Stop Acting like a Victim and get your chin up...

Keep doing what they tell you to do and maybe someday it'll happen... If not - atleast your still getting paid to be around the game.

Hey Wally,
You were flipping burgers two years ago. Be thankful this team has given you a second chance. Your turn will come after, Collins, then Melvin, then Howe screw up. You should be sitting in that seat by 2018. We will be waiting for you buddy!

November 27, 2010  10:23 PM ET

He should of got the damn job. They need some fire in the belly.

November 27, 2010  10:24 PM ET

They need some fire in the belly, he should be the new manager

It would be great to see the Mets misfortunes turn around but it just seems to be more of the same....bad choices. Wally would have done very well as the skipper of this ship.

Guess you didn't Wally... guess you didn't.
