Bruins to clear space for Savard

09:05 AM ET 11.27 | Before activating Marc Savard, the Bruins must clear salary before reintroducing the center's $4.007 million annual cap hit. So sometime before early next month, when Savard could be ready for game action, GM Peter Chiarelli will create the required space, either via trade or AHL assignment. Only Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, and Tim Thomas have no-movement clauses in their contracts, which frees Chiarelli to waive every other player without having to gain their consent.

interesting choices to be made here... B's have a glut of forwards that could be good trade bait

Unfortunately it's behind the boxes of Christmas decorations in the storage locker.

So do you trade, waive or reassign a decent forward or two and hope that Savard doesn't bump his head again or do you just ship him out? I think it would be an easy choice.

Desent in the locker room.

Add Savard to the list of guys to be moved (get something for him before he gets hurt again)...Ryder I'm sure is on every Bruins fans' list as well.

Not a bad place to be for the Bees. They have a lot to work with to get what they want in return. What they really need is some toughness and to tweek their D a little.

Option B please. The guy is one more hit away from retirement. Unless that forward you're getting rid of is Ryder, cut ties with Savard...if anyone will take him.

What is his cap hit? Do you know?

I believe it's $4 mil.

Actually, I think it's the same for both Savard and Ryder.

Thanks. If his health holds up, that's not too bad.

No it's not, but that's one huge "if".

That's what I don't get. This guys noggin cant handle anymore hammerin, so whoever picks him up, will have to do so while taking a big risk.

I know I don't want him anywhere near the Leafs!!! I like the guys abilities, but don't want them to take on the risk.

Which is exactly why I wrote "if anyone will take him". Even if you get him for a bag of pucks, it's still a significant cap hit. Any team willing to roll the dice needs plenty of cap room to fit him in, and hope like hell he stays healthy.

I believe the answer is in the article above ^^^^^^^^^
But here are some other variables Savard $4.007 mil for 7 years
Ryder's is $4 mil and is up at the end of the season
I would say Ryder would be easier to get rid of and they could always send Seguin to Jr. and take 3.55 mil off their cap space

I agree that Ryder would be easier to get rid of, especially since he hasn't been horrible this year...so far. Savard is a huge question mark. You're right about Seguin, but I hate to see them do that. The kid is NHL-ready, and has nothing left to prove in juniors. Isn't there a deadline for sending him back...and isn't it coming up very soon?

I think he's past it. No? I thought they had 10 games or something like that, until the full NHL contract kicks in.

Too late to send Seguin to Jr. team. They can dump Ference and Hunwick, play McQuaid and then get rid of Ryder/Wheeler
