Cards coach defends play call

Ken Whisenhunt had plenty of time to reflect on the Cardinals' 21-19 loss to the Redskins during the team's long flight back to Phoenix on Sunday. But unlike the vast majority of armchair quarterbacks around the country, many of whom are still scratching their heads, the Cardinals coach didn't spend much time second-guessing his play-calling on that controversial, two-point conversion try near the end of regulation. In fact, he said he'd line receiver Anquan Boldin up in the shotgun formation, have him take the snap and run the option, and try it again.

Play your strength or "get cute"? "Get cute" works in the NCAA, but at the pro level, almost never (unless you're playing the Dolphins).

That is why your name is Whisenhunt and not Belicheat, Ken.

Cut the guy some slack. he's got two busted up QBs and a few backups who should have stayed on their respective couches. Boldin is a viable threat whenever he gets the ball. I will say I was scratching my head seeing Boldin in the pocket...

From what I gather, he did play QB for a time... in high school...

Arizona will be OK, but Seattle will rule the division for another 2-3 years.

Hey, when he called the option play in SB in detroit lot of players were scratching there heads too (yea i know Boldin cant throw like Randle El), he even said to BETTIS to shut up, he got the TD out of that one and was a hero for it. Everyone is talking smack just cause they didnt get it. IF, IF they would have got it, people would be talking about the briliant call now.... take it easy, got to like the coach that has some guts and is willing to step out of the box, once a while. Insted of beeing predictable like most nfl coaches, not to mention Boldin had the guy open...
Now screen play to Boldin would be the one, that most would expect. It still could work, but i like this call. And i am not so sure about Seattle in that division for 2-3 years.

I STILL WISH HE GOT THE JOB AS HEAD COACH WITH STEELERS!!!

Boldin played QB in high school (where he was Mr. Football for Fla.) and he was actually recruited by FSU to be a QB but was soon switched to WR. Its common for teams to use a WR/former college QB as a back up or a surprise option. I don't know how precise Boldin is these days in the pocket, but I clearly know AZ needs some tricks because their QB situation is MOST unfortunate...Loseman in AZ ASAP...ITS BETTER THAN RAT-BOY! Did anyone else see that phenomenal one handed catch by Fitzgerald this past weekend....Rat Boy is going to get one of my receivers injured tryin to catch one of his overthrown bombs.

Geez, it funny that Gibbs had to explain his play calls as well. Maybe we should switch coaches...
