Twins remodeling roster

10:27 AM ET 11.27 | The next few days will tell us an awful lot about the 2011 Minnesota Twins, who on Friday outbid the competition for the right to sign Japanese star Tsuyoshi Nishioka. Though it might take a month to get an answer, the move already has tipped dominoes in the Twins' middle infield. Ten days away from baseball's winter meetings, general manager Bill Smith has a lot of irons in the fire, and he clearly has the wherewithal to sign more talent as Minnesota tries to break its string of five straight first-round playoff exits.

This came completely out of left field. Let's see if they can meet his asking price, whatever that is.

News flash, you provincial snobs, Minneapolis is not Bumfuhk Siberia... we actually tolerate and welcome folks from all sorts of cultures up here, from Somalis to Hmong to even an occasional Texan... y'all are ignorant small-minded haters. Fargo was just a movie, idiots.

You should work for the Chamber of Commerce,

This just goes to show that the Twins now have more flexibility in their payroll now, thanks to the new Target Field. They would never have such a bid two years ago.

He also can play second base as well. He's also a switch hitter.

I live between 2 cornfields in rural Ohio and we have 3 Chinese restaurants, 6 Sushi bars, some strange sounding European restaurants and 87 Mexican restaurants. What ever happened to a good old cheeseburger?

While I don't approve of EZ's rather colorful rant, he does have a point in that there is more to Minneapolis than just cold weather. Most times, it's not any worse than places like Chicago, NYC, Detroit or Denver in that regard. We also have our share of prominent companies based here including places like Target and General Mills. And Minneapolis has a vibrant music and entertainment scene, with St. Paul providing a more genteel atmosphere to its more "hip" neighbor. Of course, much of the "frozen tundra" cracks did have their basis in fact especially during the old Vikings games outdoors at Met Stadium in Bloomington. Like any city, it has its positives and negatives, but I like to think the positives are more predominant. :-)

P.S. We don't all talk like Sarah Palin. LOL

He will play second here I imagine. His throwing arm is not suited for ss.

Sounds like the Japanese Nick Punto to me, cashing in on one big season. There's a reason the Twins won the bid. Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Phillies, Mets didn't want him.

Don't forget we also have Best Buy, 3M, Cargill and many more corporate HQ's than many people realize. As someone that moved here from out of state I was very surprised at how many companies are HQ'd here. A very nice place to live an raise a family.

They'll be in that mode for a while
