A-Rod-to-Red Sox scenario

There are maybe a half a dozen teams at most that might be interested in Alex Rodriguez should he decide to opt out of his contract and pursue free agency -- the Angels, the Giants, the Cubs. But perhaps the most intriguing player in the A-Rod sweepstakes would be the Red Sox. One reason is that A-Rod's agent, Scott Boras, has worked closely with the Red Sox over the past year. He put Daisuke Matsuzaka in Fenway Park and perhaps more significantly, Boras got another client, outfielder J.D. Drew, to opt out of his contract with the Dodgers. Where did he end up? Boston, for five years and $70 million. The road map is there.

YES, go to Boston A-Rod and stick it to all these so-called Yankees fans that want to hate you because you were going through a slump. If they can't appreciate the best player in baseball then move on to somewhere that can.....

Only if the following incentives are built into the contract, for every 25 points negative difference in batting, slugging and ops, between regular season and playoffs, you give back 5 million in salary the next season. The only incentive that would woirk with this guy is financial.

I'm in awe of what A-Rod can do as a player not on the juice. He's the best talent of this generation.

That being said...where he goes, titles don't follow. If the Boston faithful is more worried winning and less worried about gaudy stats, they won't sign A-Rod.

Learn from the Yanks who should have devoted that A-Rod money to pitching. Like the Yanks, Boston has enough bats, why go get another one?

This will never happen, keep dreamin Boston!!! Keep it real, do u really think the Yankees will let him go to the Red Sox. C'mon, don't be ignorant and face the reality it won't happen and he will stay in New York!!!

October 24, 2007  08:54 AM ET

I don't think it would be a good idea, Mike Lowell numbes are pretty good as well and it would be much cheaper to keep him at third, 324 BA , 120 RBI & 21 HR, not bad for a third baseman. Lets keep mike in Bean town !! GO RED SOX!!

October 24, 2007  08:57 AM ET

please don't go to the red sox, u choke when crunch time comes durin the postseason, sure u can win regular season games but so can someone that would play for half ur salary and ur self centered, the "me me me" attitude will destroy the boston team

Okay let me see if I have this right. Fannation in their great wisdom has posted out of the six new threads two about Mattingly and one about Rodriguez. And another about Floyd going to the Rockies? Why?
Excuse me if I am wrong, but a quick scan of the Boston Globe shows these three headlines, The Wakefield story (which Fannation has chosen to post), "Beckett's Run Reflects Stuff of Legend" and "Success is a case of Good Management (primarily about Epstein)" and from the Denver Post there are these headlines: "Closer (Papelbon) Protests Odds" and "Rox Reveal Great Way To Grow".
None of these could surpass those other threads in relevance or importance? Not controversial enough? I would liked to have heard from both the young and old fans about Beckett's place in the field of legends, for one thread.
And I have only looked at two of the Boston and Denver papers what else could have been mined from the funny pages? Thanks Fannation for the insulting slap to our relative intelligence and interest levels.

Scott Boras (God love him) is the devil ...

October 24, 2007  09:07 AM ET

Lowe is probably one of the nicest guys in Major. Keep him Sox.

October 24, 2007  09:09 AM ET

LMFAO!!! 5 years at 70 million. Are you f**ing kidding me? It is going to take about 2Xs that in years and money. Does anyone really think Arod will sign for JD Drew money? What a joke. If he would take 5 years then the yankees would offer him 100 million or more easy and then they would have a 20 million discount from the rangers. Whoever wrote this is a moron.

October 24, 2007  09:10 AM ET

this could really happen, are we boston fans spoiled or what. all the torture of the past years, now we are the **** in all sports, bring in arod and get rid of lugo he is such a bum, i think arod would love to play short again.

You know where that rumor is headed.

wow...Boras really represents some of the most overpaid overhyped players.
70 mill for jd drew, that kid's a joke
100+ for matsuzaka for him to die out half way threw the season

Boras is the best shady-used-car dealer in the business.
he could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves.

October 24, 2007  09:27 AM ET

lastchoice, the point is that Boras conned the Sox into overpaying for a piece of crap.

At least our piece of crap produced in the post-season. ;)
