Tiki booed at Giants Stadium

Tiki Barber had 1,662 yards rushing and 465 yards receiving last season. Now he is a television commentator for NBC, and part of his job entails analyzing the Giants. When they were bad, as they were in starting the season 0-2, he was critical, rankling fans and former teammates who once appreciated his candor. When Barber's image has appeared on the video screens at Giants Stadium, it has been greeted with boos. Players grew tired of answering questions about Barber's comments during the preseason. When Barber questioned Manning's leadership, Manning offered an unusually tart retort, to the wide satisfaction of his teammates who had not seen that side of him before. It seems the Giants have continued to use Barber to help carry them, or at least motivate them, this time in absentia. The message is clear: The Giants can move -- and move on -- without him.

I hate myself for having liked Tiki when he was playing. Playing for Coughlin and not fumbling, that is. He needs to learn that you can be critical, without sounding vindictive. Oh yeah, I hate him on that train wreck of an NBC pregame show. Just give me Costas, Collinsworth, and The Bus to lighten things up, with a sprinkling of Peter "Everyone denies what I report" King.

The way he dissed everything Giants he'd probably get booed around here too & N.Y. is several hundred miles away (North Carolina)

Funny......Go Cowboys.

The Giants have huge locker room problem. If they lose 2 in a row, Shockey, Burress, the Defense, and Coughlin will go off.

I like a Good Dallas vs. Giants game, so win until you get to us.

Right or wrong Tiki is just trying to make a name for himself in a new profession. If I remeber correctly he was by far not the only one critical of the Giants organization both this year and last. I see nothing wrong with him questioning Eli's ;eadership skills as that was not the first time it has been a discussion.
I think the problem stems when he starts airing out issues that traditionally have been off limits. Locker room banter, private meetings and player conversations crosses an invisible line.
Botttom line fans enjoy booing and hissing as it makes the game and general fandom a more fun.

October 24, 2007  08:19 AM ET

Tiki made entirely unnecessary comments that went above and beyond analysis which has cost him a lot of respect he used to get from Giants fans. I would have been booing too.

Tiki is not a loser. He is bitter. He is the Brittany Spears of football, doing stupid stunts to get attention to his new career. He was a major contributer to the Giants and I loved him as a player....but next thing you now he will be getting a boob and driving over Coughlin's foot.

I just hope we don't see any Tiki beaver shots

October 24, 2007  08:42 AM ET

Leslie Nielsen: "Nice Beaver."

Priscilla Presley; "Thanks, I just had it stuffed."

October 24, 2007  08:43 AM ET

I need a better anology than Brittany, FERRILL. Point well taken.

You are a sick man oldskool - Tiki beaver shots, I just threw up in my coffee.

October 24, 2007  08:51 AM ET

glad I could help!

October 24, 2007  08:58 AM ET

"Just give me Costas, Collinsworth, and The Bus to lighten things up, with a sprinkling of Peter "Everyone denies what I report" King."

So you're taking Tom Coughlin's word over the most respected journalist in football? What are they putting in the water over there in NY?

October 24, 2007  09:08 AM ET

We don't need Tiki we have three good running backs.I'm going to go ahead and say that the Giants will beat the Cowboys in two weeks.

October 24, 2007  09:36 AM ET

He deserves to be booed. His comments were self-serving, designed to make Tiki look good. (DC)

tiki, think the fans have heard anything you've said recently? perhaps you should review the recordings and consider what you say in public more, before you speak.

The Giants did lose two in a row, very badly and they did not implode. Quite the opposite. It should be a good game against the Cowboys. You have to play the top teams to find out if you are for real. Dallas is the top team in the NFC right now. As a life long Giants fan I see a lot of good things on the G men, but want to see it against better competition. Coughlin is, and always was, a very good football coach, I think he has surrounded himself with a much better group of assistants. Talent levels between the teams is close, slight edge to Cowboys, but not a lot. Will be fun.

Can we as Americans never mention Britney Spears ever again on any page other than a some ridiculous celeb hype page that I would never read in the first place. Celebrity obsession drives me insane. That said, **** Tiki. Eli is getting better every week. By the way Jacobs is no bum. he averages 5.6 yards a carry. Truthfully that type of production is what makes the play action work so well. Opposition has to play the run or they will stuff the ball down your throat with Jacobs or Ward. The Giants miss nothing in Barber except a big mouth that doesn't know when to shut the **** up.

Finally read the rest of the article - yeah they are moving on. Wouldnt fans at the Meadowlands boo anybody including Mother Teresa if she had fumbled?

October 24, 2007  10:17 AM ET

tiki has extra teeth in his mouth, i'm convinced of it.

anyways ya boo him, his mouth is big (literally and figuratively)

the guy made remarks he had no business making. I have watched Steve Young in the booth for years and haven''t heard him trash the 49ers the way Tiki did it to the Giants. Same with Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman for the Cowboys. You don't pull the **** he did, especially when you treated the last season as a victory lap. I'm not surprised he's being booed at all. Hopefully he can make this up to the fans and be the beloved player he feels he is in his mind, or he's got himself a pretty short new career
