SDSU scrambling to keep Hoke?

08:29 AM ET 11.29 | San Diego State AD Jim Sterk said over the weekend that a retention package is being put together by the university in hopes of keeping Brady Hoke. Sterk said it was "premature" to talk about the specifics of the package, but it likely includes salary increases and contract extension for Hoke and his assistant coaches. The move comes after Hoke had "informal" discussions in San Diego earlier this week with Minnesota Athletic Director Joel Maturi about possibly being hired there as Minnesota's new head coach. Sterk said he did not expect Hoke to leave for the Minnesota job.

Bah, evil spam...

I would hope the prospect of a raise and a 10-12 win season in 2011 trump the MINN job. You can certainly get paid more there but what are the odds of turning MINN around in a conference with NEB, WISC, Iowa, PSU, MICH, and tOSU? In the MWC BSU, AFA, and TCU will be down a bit next year. If Hoke wants to leave he should think about what kind of offers he could get after a SDSU BCS bid or a 10 win season, I bet they will be better than a MINN job offer.

"Sterk said he did not expect Hoke to leave for the Minnesota job."
HA!!
He hopes and prays he don't leave for Minn. job!!!

Like I said on the last thread, of this subject; At worst, he gets a good raise!

If you look at it long term the MINN job may be "worst case". Hoke goes there and goes .500 he may never get another big HC offer. Stick at SDSU for one more season and get 10-12 wins (with a raise) he can go to a more attractive job opening (unless the MICH HC job opens up in 2010, but I would assume the Stanford staff would be going there instead of Hoke).

SDSU better start making plans to hire a new guy because he's as good as gone. No way San Diego State can throw out the amount of money Minnesota can.

If Hoke wants to go, he's gonna go. Most guys who make a decision make said decision within the first five minutes and only put on a show of indecision so as to placate their athletes and make it seem like they truly agonized over the choice and weighed all the options.

Again, he will have better opportunities than Minne but may not want any other opportunities.

Nutt would be a mistake for Colo....he is a good recruiter, but doesn't seem to coach to well.

Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo...football!!!!

I can't see it. Can CU give him $2M+/yr? That is about what he's getting at Ole Lady.

Hoke should wait a little while, maybe his name could come up for the Miami job.

Let's see, get a pay raise to 1mil with bonuses and live in San Diego. Toast of the town, probably the top of the Mountain in the next year, THEN take a higher profile job in another year or two. Or, freeze your babalones off in minn, be a mid-level team in your conference and maybe get stuck there without being offered a better job for another 5 years or so??? Not really a tough call.

Ice, good point. If you can make more money and live in San Diego, then why in the hell would Hoke take the Minnesota Job???

I concur, but I'd like Nutt to stay at Ole Hissy.

I heard that was just a rumor... But you never know...What do you think of Sumlin from UH?

Nutt's agent is notorious for putting his name out for any and every job, so that he can leverage a raise. Ask Arkansas about it.

I like Sumlin. That offense was still clicking without Holgerson (sp?), until the #1 and #2 QBs went down. I think Sumlin probably wishes he can get UH into a BCS conference, and therefore he wouldn't have to leave, and he could keep the benefits of TX recruiting.
