Buoniconti: Dolphins 'pathetic'

Several members of the 1972 Dolphins -- the only perfect team in NFL history -- spoke out this week about what's looking like the worst team in Dolphins' history. Their emotions ran the gamut -- sadness, disgust, sympathy, and yes, embarrassment. "Pathetic,'' Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti said of the Dolphins' personnel mistakes. ''Trent Green is starting to shape up as a pretty good move, huh?'' he said, sarcasm dripping. ``And Jason Allen has really fulfilled expectations.'' Former Dolphins running back Jim Kiick called these Dolphins the worst team he has ever seen. ''Embarrassing to the franchise,'' he said. ``We feel for the current players. It hurts. [But] I couldn't believe how bad they were. The defensive backfield is terrible. They're at least three or four years from [contending].''

They are right about this. They are Horrible.

It all stems from management making boneheaded decisions.Start Beck so he can get his feet wet and go from there. Before the season started I knew they were not going to be good, but I thought they could win 8 games.I just didn't realize that it was going to take 3 years.

no really

I hate the '72 Dolphins.

Why don't they just ****? Of course the '07 team is bad; we've seen them play. But kicking them when they are down doesn't help any. try supporting them for a change. How about they pool together their pension checks, sell their rings and free government cheese on ebay, and buy the Dolphins. I'm sure they'd field a much better team. Yeah.

"shut the heII up" is banned? OOOHHH. Scary words.

Of course maybe I should have made **** = die already.

The Dolphins have a chance to do something special...They had the undefeated season, now they need to go winless......perfection both ways

......perfection both ways

Good point. I like it. Full circle. Very good.

October 24, 2007  09:01 AM ET

im routing for a winless season, then we will always be the only franchise to do both even if somebody ends up going perfect!

October 24, 2007  09:17 AM ET

Notice Nick didn't call out the Pats for running up the score....he's been there and knows better...

October 24, 2007  09:22 AM ET

haha. even my 49ers aren't THIS bad :)

October 24, 2007  09:27 AM ET

If Fannation wants to put up a "classless" story, here it is. Not the Waaaah Waaaah Patriots beat us by too many <sniff sniff> points waaaaah story.

Right here.

These schmucks pop their champagne and celebrate every year that a great team loses, they even make a public display out of it. Now they start railing on the current Dolphins too.

Guess what old-timers... if you took your 72 team, fast forwarded 35 years and put them in the NFL now, you'd go 0-16 too. You weren't stronger, faster, more skilled, or in any way better than even the worst current NFL team. Times have changed, the game has changed. Shut up. No really, shut up.

They're talking about the embarrassment, well the real embarrassment is the most successful squad in the franchise's history acting like arrogant snobs year in and year old.

October 24, 2007  09:29 AM ET

Thanks, Nick Buoniconti and Jim Kiick, for having the b*alls to point out the obvious! Somebody has to, even if it is voices from the past! (DC)

I'm w/ thisandthat. These tools need to go back into their hole.
They're all just has-beens who got lucky during a much less competitive time in the NFL.
they probably arent even a top-5 team of that decade.
From the incoherrent Czonka to Bob Griese -the most underserved hall-of-famer in league history, they are classless idiots who make other respectable NFL old-timers look bad, by being delusional, self-centered a-hol es.

October 24, 2007  09:45 AM ET

haha. even my 49ers aren't THIS bad :)

Are you sure? are you absolutely sure. Wins aside, what would the Vegas Line be on a 49er vs Miami game. Remember, three points are automatically built in to the spread for the home team-regardless.

October 24, 2007  09:46 AM ET

As a Dolphins fan I am very happy that they are speaking out. The entire organization is an embarrassment, and maybe, just maybe, these comments will open Huizenga's eyes.

October 24, 2007  09:52 AM ET

the only thing it will do, is make another 1 season coach in miami. bad trades, poor drafts, and 1 season coaches are how the Fins got into this mess to begin with.

October 24, 2007  09:54 AM ET

I wonder if the Dolphins have ever been the last unbeaten team in any of the years since '72? If so, did these guys so concerned about the state of Miami football still pop their champagne? Regardless I want the Patriots to run the table so we don't have to hear about these guys and their stupid tradition anymore.

October 24, 2007  10:02 AM ET

No Vikingfan, there's been 12 teams that have gone unbeaten since '72

October 24, 2007  10:03 AM ET

In fairness to the 72 Dolphins, they didn't make a public spectacle out of popping the champaigne, Sportscenter did that. Are they arrogant, yeah. Say what you will about the competativeness of the NFL now and how the game has changed. None of it changes the fact that they went undefeated. None of the comments that were made are inaccurate. This team is poory managed and has been for some time. I don't blame anyone associated with this organization to be upset with how it has ben run the past few years. At some point someone has to speak up and say something.
