No. 1 pick trying change culture in Washington

08:08 AM ET 12.03 | Flip Saunders wasn't going to let Wednesday's 127-108 loss go Thursday, while both the Wizards head coach and their No. 1 pick grapple with ways to correct what may have felt like a lack of effort. Wall admitted that speaking up isn't always easy, but it's a necessity for a struggling team. "I think at times, we scared to say something to each other because we think it might mess up a friendship or they might take it the wrong way. But until we start doing that and start keying in more on the defensive end, it seems like things are going to keep going like this." Saunders didn't hold back as he pointed out the numerous lapses and breakdowns, the lack of focus, the inability to get back in transition, the failure to box out or chase down loose balls. ... "We had a couple of guys who still felt sorry for themselves because of how the game was and how our film session went," Saunders said.

He's hopefully going to learn sooner rather than later that the teams with the strongest friendships are also the ones that can get after each other when they're screwing up and not take it personal. They've got a lot of young talent but pretty horrendous on court chemistry. I've attended about half of their home games this year, and they actually appear to be getting worse as the season goes on.

Wall sounds like he has head on straight I like that......

He's more of a showboat that a winner. It looks as if he doesn't play within the system compared to someone like Rose who is always composed with a high basketball IQ. I have a feeling he'll morph into a combo guard. He's too quick and wreckless to be a pure point guard.

Wall is by far the standout of a very shallow draft. Of the other top picks, I think Favors is the only one that has potential to develop into something. I thought the Jazz were nuts for picking up Hayward, but he actually looks decent when he gets minutes. He just isn't going to get many minutes unless Kirilenko gets injured.

He is a bit out of control, but that's what happens when you have a clueless coach and a team full of kids and a nutcase as the best playerRose came into a club with some veteransHes a pg , he's more like devin harris...quick & skilled.....but can he be a leader? Not sure, but he's only a rookie, give him time

It's about time these kids stop using their youth as excuse. If he's that good he'll be the voice of reason and enact change... the ball is in his hands.

I think we'll look back more at the poor drafting (first two picks) more so than the lack of quality. I think this past seasons draft will produce some winners even if only Cousins and maybe another offer true "cornerstone" talent.
