08:19 AM ET 12.03 | With Jon Gruden off the grid, Miami can turn to new candidates. Mississippi State's Dan Mullen is viewed as a possible front-runner for the position if he chooses to pursue it. Mullen had great success as Urban Meyer's offensive coordinator at Florida and this season led Mississippi State to an 8-4 regular-season record. Mullen was scheduled to be in South Florida on Wednesday to visit Boynton Beach defensive lineman Jonathan Harris. Mullen was forced to stay home while battling the flu, the Starkville Daily News reported.

I'd get out of the SEC if I was a coach and offered a decent job somewhere else. There's something really rotten in the State of SECmark.

+1. It no longer seems abnormal for programs to be under investigation. Obviously the SEC has a lot of power but at some point there will be a backlash.

U of Miami's biggest problem is that the program lacks anything that even resembles character. They'll let any thug, miscreant, moron, character flawed felon in the making in there. DISCIPLINE. That is key Miami. Sheesh!

Shannon brought discipline and got rid of the thugs. One of his first rules was not allowing any player to own or possess a firearm...which is why Miami now has a nice group of kids taking advantage of the scholarships to graduate with a degree. On the field it hasn't translated to wins yet.

Boy, do I understand this, unfortunately we ended up with Bill Callahan.
SVT, please post, I'm concerned about you. Do not, I repeat, do not go to the hardware store for rope and then rent a room at Motel 6 in a seedy part of town. We're here for you!

Knives and other weapons were not included in the list...Nor hanging with the Gangsta punk element..

So how long should Miami wait for those on the field wins? The man had what? 4-5 years? Shannon is obviously is good at getting the kids to class. Maybe he should be a teacher. NOT a coach. He is a complete failure in the coaching area. That's why he was fired.

I heard that the UM AD got permission to talk with Mullen the other day. If nothing else comes of this, Mullen will definitely get a handsome pay raise from MSU.

Complete failure is a little rough. Maybe a failure as a top notch head coach, sure. I wouldn't call him a failure as a coordinator, recruiter, or position coach though.

The SEC is in no different shape than any other major conference-just scrutinized more heavily-anybody that doesn't believe that there are dozens of Cam Newton's out there playing in the Pac 10, ACC, Big 10 or 12 or whatever they are, etc. has blinders on.

Talking more about the SEC administration and how the SEC is being run.
