09:25 AM ET 12.05 | National full contact Division I college football recruiting began a week ago. The University of Minnesota is still without a permanent coach. Not a problem, Joel Maturi said Saturday, explaining that if he had the new coach already in place for recruiting, he wouldn't be able to hire a coach who is still coaching. "I mean, figure it out," the Gophers' athletic director said. "Who coaching is going to leave their team so they could go recruiting last Sunday? For most (coaches), seasons didn't end until last Saturday. They still haven't ended for some. "So that's irrational thought." Boise State coach Chris Petersen's name surfaced Saturday for the Gophers vacancy.

Actually, a better coaching job for Petersen, would be at Miami!!!

December 5, 2010  10:15 AM ET

For the life of me I can't see why anyone that has already proven themselves would want the Minne job. Maybe I'm not objective here but being exiled to Lubbock is not any worse than being exiled to Minne...IMO.

Agreed, OT. I wonder if Coach Peterson is seeing the glass ceiling at BSU?

If Peterson is wanting to leave it probably should be this year. I believe they are losing quite a few players. They have reloaded before though.

Or Stanford, if Harbaugh leaves!

When Kellen Moore decides to leave (he's a junior) it will bring to a close a very successful chapter at BSU. This may be Coach Peterson's best chance at landing a gig in a major conference.

Why the hell would Peterson leave the blue field of Boise for MINNESOTA???

He should hold out for Penn State

IMO, I'm not so sure that Petersen wants to go to the East Coast, but then again money talks!! Just my opinion.

Well....let's see....

1. Cold of Idaho vs cold of Minnesota?....ok it is colder in Minnesota, but not much
2. Intellectual stimulus of Boise State University vs University of Minnesota? U of M here
3. Cultural life of Boise vs Minneapolis/St Paul? Hmm....Minneapolie here as well.
4. Places to eat in Boise vs Minneapolis? Please..
5. Paycheck at Boise State vs U of Minn?

Only thing Boise has that Minneapolis, MN doesn't have is the mountains....and I think that UofM will be paying enough that he can go there if he wants.....

Dude's a football coach...

Coaches with success that want to "upgrade" want to go to programs where success is a viable option...

Once again - why would he go to MINNESOTA?
