11:47 AM ET 12.05 | NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France has said repeatedly that the sanctioning body likely will change its points structure again in 2011. Whether winning becomes more of a factor remains to be seen, but expect big changes next season. France is expected to announce the new system Jan. 21, 2011, during winter testing at Daytona International Speedway.

So the next NASCAR Champion, the #11 Hamlin
or #22 Kurt Busch
or #33 Bowyer
or #00 Reuti
or #99 Edwards
or long shot Micky comes out of Retirement to drive the #55 NAPA car ;)
or Jimmie Johnson changes his number to #44, and Win #6!

Doesn't matter... he will still find a way to make sure that he picks the winner anyway...

Morning all, not much we can do about the SPAM, they delete them and their right back that evening and first thing in the morning, what a waste. Have a warm day folks, I got to go back out this morning and plow some driveways, weather calls for more snow so I'll try to keep ahead of the game.

nascar liked to have poopied their collective pants a few years ago when the 24 and the 88 BOTH missed the chase...YIKES!!! GASP!!! so they doctored the points system to include the top 12, knowing that the 24 and 88 would most likely never finish out of the top 12...then, alas, alac, the 88 isnt getting it done....nascar is so freakin screwed up..just bring back the old points system..nascar changed the points after 2003 when the 17 won a "boring" title by being consistent...now the dullard who drives the 48 has the current system figgered out...its just stooopid

Comments #45 and #48, you will rile the Jooonya fans up talking like that. LOL That borders on being a hater. Oh wait, the Joooonya fans are narrowed down to a few lately. LOL

i aint beatin on Jr, even tho it may sound like it...im not a Jr hater...i grew up as the biggest nascar fan ever...but for the last 2-3 years, if i see a race on tv, great, if i dont, thats ok too..i think nascar realizes it is losing its fan base more and more each year..i do however see thousands of fans in the stands dressed like empt seats now tho...
my point is that nascar, and taht dimwit France, realize they are sinking like a hot rock, and that if Jr were to win, and mebbe threaten for a title, a lot of fans might come back to the track, and the ratings would go way up..

Reset everyone's points after Richmond in September, that way even a Start & Park team can be champion! Isn't that what we want a true underdog beating the odds?

True Frank, NASCAR is hemorrhaging fans like blood from a lost limb, but going through and changing the rules from year to year isn't the answer. The only way they are going to have "Game 7 " excitement would be if it came along naturally like it did this year. There is nothing that can be done to artificially create that, unless you reset the points for all the participants every race.
But then again the way things are going it wouldn't be surprising if they did go that route.

Why would they all of a sudden stop being a start and park for the rest of the year ? LOL

what nascar was envisioning when they changed to this stupid, idiotic, moronic "chase" points system is a last lap pass, coming out of turn four, for the checkered flag, in the last race of the season, deciding the points title...i dont see it happening...

France is so bent on this Chase thing that he will do anything to make it work.
Well buddy here's a hint: It ain't working and no amount of changes will fix it!
Some of the closest points races in the past several years have been in the Truck Series. This year looked to be more of a fluke then the rule, but typically they have 2-4 drivers competing for the title at Homestead. And guess what, they use the same points as the Cup guys, and no Chase!

Exactly. But everyone has turned into points racers. You saw that this year JJ probably could have gone and mixed it up with Carl, but since they won the title in second place that was all that mattered.
