Twins silence disappoints Hunter

Twins all-star center fielder Torii Hunter, who can become a free agent after the World Series, said Wednesday that he hasn't had any contract offers from Minnesota since the end of the season. "I'm kind of disappointed, but what can you do?" Hunter said from his Texas home. "That's my home team; I want to be with my home team. But there are no talks, no progress at all. It's still the same. But there's still a lot of time left."

Despite all the talk I dont think he ends up in Atlanta.

he's going to wind up in Texas.

I love it. This will help drive all of the Twin's primo players to other teams. I hope the Rangers can net a few like Hunter and Santana.

Typical of the Twins' front office...there was never a chance of re-signing Hunter...so why even try?

They told him they wouldn't negotiate last offseason, and their policy is not to negotiate during the season. Later, they changed their mind when they saw he was having his 2nd very good offensive season in a row (and that the guy they had slottted for his job, Span, wasn't quite working out in the minors). He said, um, no you wouldn't negotiate with me during the offseason or during the season when I wanted to, you guys can now wait...

NOW, they won't negotiate at all...I wouldn't be surprised if they let all of their real talent leave and just keep players until their arbitration years are over. They'll keep signing scrap heap free agents that stink...

The Texas Rangers are a consortium of the damned.

Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall.

Here is a surprise, not.
I am sure this is all the Yankees fault.../sarcasm/

Why put it on the Twins when you are the one who wants more money than they can afford. If Hunter was going to be reasonable in order to stay with the Twins, he would have been long signed by now. Now it's just a cash grab with no reason for the Twins to help Hunter out.

October 25, 2007  11:18 AM ET

Jason Tyner will be a great replacement in center. He does hit 1 homerun every 2-3 years and all. I though the Twins organization agreed that the offence stank last year. And it was pretty obvious who was supplying the offence (Hunter was the clean up hitter for a good part of the season at least). Yuck.

October 25, 2007  12:12 PM ET

Didnt they offer him a deal during the season? I thought I heard that he rejected a 3 yr 45 mil per offer in aug or sept...

October 25, 2007  12:15 PM ET

Yes, but he wants 5 years at the $15/year. The 5 years is the key.

Any team that "Can't" afford to sign players needs new management. There is just no excuse for not trying. Any team that tries can generate significant revenue. Can't my ***.

Sign and trade him to the Yankees for Melky Cabrera and a young pitcher! Torri is a great player especially on defense but he is getting up there in age. They need to get some players for Santana also.
