08:10 AM ET 12.07 | Facing a must-win to have any shot at the playoffs, the 49ers are doing the Smith Shuffle again. Coach Mike Singletary has decided to start Alex Smith on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, a team source confirmed Monday evening. ... The 49ers' coaching staff determined Alex Smith gives the 49ers the better chance to win because he knows a lot more of the team's offensive system than Troy Smith, who started the past five games. The 49ers must defeat the Seahawks on Sunday at Candlestick Park to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

Real stable team you got there at the Bay.

sorry Singletary - wrong choice, yet again

December 7, 2010  09:35 AM ET

I don't feel good about this one. Troy's the future.

December 7, 2010  09:37 AM ET

This proves that Simpletary isn't just stupid...he's insane.

He's got about as much future as the Aztec calendar. At this point, SF has only a glorious past.

Playoffs?

Don't talk about playoffs!!!

December 7, 2010  09:42 AM ET

Get ready to be disappointed, AGAIN. It looks like Samurai Mike will be done at the end of the season.

December 7, 2010  09:42 AM ET

Could be he's already given up on the season and is simply attempting to showcase Alex Smith against a weak team in the hopes of getting some value for him in a trade. I still think the Vikings would bite.

Watch the Niners win a couple of games and ruin their draft. They can't even lose right.

Playoff?

December 7, 2010  09:45 AM ET

Obviously, these guys are better evaluators of football talent that I am but, haven't we been down this road multiple times? Alex Smith is NOT a competent NFL quarterback. I'm not sure that there is one on the roster but Troy Smith is the closest thing. Only four more weeks left of this madness...

Anyone seen the jets ? They never showed up in Foxboro.. I'm worried

December 7, 2010  09:46 AM ET

The receivers have got to be lovin' this. How are they supposed to have chemistry and anticipate what the QB will do if it keeps switching?

How about we let the DC call the offensive game? He seems to know a lot more about the system than the OC.

Transportation problems. First, they made Rex buy 3 seats because he wouldn't fit in two. Then, he couldn't get through the TSA scanner machine. The TSA couldn't find anyone who would grope him, either, until Rex finally agreed to let a fat Lezzie do the job. They got out to the runway and had to go back and off-load some baggage. The plane still blew a tire landing in Boston. Then they had to drive to the stadium, which always takes forever on game day.

Or maybe they just didn't belong on the same field as the Pats. Your call.

No hearts upon arrival... no arses upon departure.

Yes, all the Niner fans want to see their team make the playoffs so they can get STOMPED in the first round by a real playoff team.

Singletary and Jed York deserve each other.
