USC to start Sanchez vs. Oregon

USC coach Pete Carroll on Thursday announced Mark Sanchez would start a third consecutive game, noting John David Booty's broken right middle finger had not healed enough to ensure accurate passing. Booty did not throw Thursday after displaying mostly good accuracy and velocity the previous two days.

I didn't know Sanchez was a Black Panther.

haha.......looks like the fist we have as a picture

October 26, 2007  09:16 AM ET

Sanchez=nail in coffin for USC.

I think the rest of the Pac-10 is licking their lips right now.

October 26, 2007  09:27 AM ET

This insures a Sun Bowl berth for USC

October 26, 2007  09:57 AM ET

Is he doing this so he will have an excuse when they lose....

October 26, 2007  09:58 AM ET

I think John David Booty insured a Motor City Bowl berth for USC. I have been wanting Sanchez as QB since last season and was schocked when Booty got the nod over him last year.

Guys, he is a redshirt Sophomore; he needed a couple of games and practices as #1 to get ready. To How 'bout them, the PAC 10 may quickly find themselves lifiting their chops from the ground in defeat, after Sanchez finishes making them look like chumps. Don't confuse Sanchez with the former 5th year senior from UGA, you know the one; his fatner & grandfather both played QB at UGA.

This will be an excellent game, but you've got to give the DUCKS the nod, since it's being played in their pond. Can you say "Quack Attack"?

October 26, 2007  11:09 AM ET

Never thought I'd say "good one George W."
Never

October 26, 2007  12:34 PM ET

I did mean my comment to be a plus for Sanchez,

I agree with Jabril1217 and the MotorCity Bowl and Booty.

October 26, 2007  12:48 PM ET

Sanchez is more mobile in the pocket, a big plus for SC. While his playing decreases the overall play-calling package, his agility opens the door for certain plays not well-suited for JDB. Sanchez is a winner, he'll show up. Not to mention SC is getting healthy again...

October 26, 2007  01:03 PM ET

MARINsur4- What does it matter if your healthy again. You've already embarassed yourselves, again, vs. UCLA. With that D you shouldn't have allowed more than 10 points a game this year. I'm starting to think Carroll is more like Mack Brown every game, except, Carroll has more talent on his team. What a joke. SC is the deepest team in the nation by 4x. I'm glad to see their season fall apart. Hope to see Nick LeGay on your sidelines.

October 26, 2007  01:25 PM ET

Jabril1217,

I said "licking their chops", maybe that is southern terminology, but that means that the rest of the Pac 10 is waiting to beat them, i.e. a dog licks his chops when smelling and eyeing a tasty morsel. I was speaking highly for the rest of the Pac 10. I actually picked Oregon over USC this weekend.

After seeing Sanchez in action against Arizona, I cannot help but think that he's not that good. Sure Tereshinski (you know, the guy with a brother on the Wake Forrest team) wasn't much better, but all mudslinging aside, playing well against Notre Dame this year is nothing to write home about b/c ND only has ONE WIN this year. Sanchez has yet to prove to me that he can do well; if he proves me wrong this Saturday, then good for you.

October 26, 2007  01:30 PM ET

I never thought Booty was all that great to begin with, but he's done more than Sanchez thus far. Booty was good enough to play on a stable USC team (which is pretty good in the relative scheme of things). Sanchez might not be good enough to lift up a injury-riddled USC team.

Once again, we'll see if Sanchez proves me wrong.

October 26, 2007  01:58 PM ET

I wonder how hurt Booty actually is?
Go Ducks

October 26, 2007  01:59 PM ET

Tongan- First, you're lack of a respectable education proceeds any valid argument you think you may have . Try a spell check before you let that verbal **** spew. Second, get your facts straight champ, SC has not played UCLA yet. Third, getting healthy has a lot to do with where USC is right now. Being down 5 RBs, 8 OL, 4 LBs, and 4 DBs is substantial. The meat of the schedule is coming up, winning out at OU, Cal, ASU and UCLA could bring us back into national championship contention.

October 26, 2007  02:15 PM ET

No doubt this is the right move for USC and it gives them the best chance to win. But as a USC fan who wants Sanchez to start, I still do not know if it enough to beat the Ducks (just trying to be realistic fellow Trojan fans)
GO TROJANS!

October 26, 2007  02:48 PM ET

Can a banged up 'D' handle 4 qtrs of all that speed on Oregon's offense. They run the spread well, and their qb looks real good this year. Should be a good one but I'm gonna say Ducks win by 10....just an opinion

October 26, 2007  02:50 PM ET

Tongan posts the same message everywhere. If anything, USC's 6-1 record DESPITE the injuries is proof of its incredible depth. There's no other team in the country that could have withstood that many injuries. Imagine Kentucky without Woodson, or Florida without Tebow. Against Arizona, USC had 6 healthy offensive linemen, period. That meant very little rest for those guys. Do I think they deserve a higher ranking? Not yet. But do they deserve the uninformed smack that Tongan spews out? Not at all.

October 26, 2007  03:41 PM ET

Didn't Fannation already post the same story about three stories down? I know USC and ND are great for the hit count, but c'mon.

October 26, 2007  03:54 PM ET

Well, I'm just so pleased, Mr. Bill, I'm going to Disneyland.
